High school diploma or GED and experience working with youth preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Good knowledge of traffic laws. Ability to control traffic; to communicate effectively with students and the general public; to work in inclement weather conditions; to stand continuously for over two hours. Good driving record required. Must not reflect a total accumulation of more than six demerit points in the past twelve months or a DUI conviction in the past four years. Pre-employment drug testing and FBI criminal background check required.
Direct traffic at assigned school locations; assist pedestrians in crossing streets; assist school bus drivers entering and exiting school lots; assist parents/school traffic in and out of school lot. Enter the street to stop vehicular traffic and determine when it is safe for children to cross; identify unsafe conditions or illegal activities in and around the intersection responsible for and report these incidents to authorities. Give directions or assistance to citizens; attend training in CPR, first aid and infectious disease; conduct child safety programs as assigned; perform routine clerical duties. Perform other work as required.
