Science Editor: Electronically copy edit and revise manuscripts, research proposals, patent disclosures, figures and presentation for English grammar, clarity, accuracy, and conformity to Journal style. Maintain checklists of submission requirements for journals, templates of journal formatting styles for text and references, and a database of contacts. Monitor deadlines; create and maintain electronic copies of all documents; maintain group library, archives, calendar, and content of group web pages; process letters of recommendation.
Bachelor's degree required.
A minimum of two years of professional experience copy-editing books or journals (newspaper or magazine work does not qualify) required.
At least one year of professional experience editing electronically using Microsoft Word required.
Experience editing scholarly books preferred.
More than one year of professional experience editing electronically using Microsoft Word preferred.
Experience hiring and supervising offsite freelance editorial workers preferred.
Demonstrated thorough knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style required.
Excellent command of written English required.
Knowledge of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style required.
Knowledge of standard editing and proofreading marks required.
Ability to comprehend academic writing required.
