Organizes and prepares equipment and materials used for lecture and laboratory experiments and oversees the work of students.

Essential Functions

30% - Prepares individual laboratory programs and determines lab setups, including computer based laboratory experiments and associated apparatus; sets up computers for evening laboratories as required; maintains and repairs equipment and checks for proper storage, effective operation and preventative maintenance
20% - Administers department student quizzes, reports results to instructors; answers student questions related to equipment and operation
15% - Prepares and cleans laboratories and laboratory equipment; provides work direction and monitors student assistants
15% - Dispenses and prepares chemicals as required for the laboratory; reports repair requirements to appropriate departments
10% - Moves hazardous materials from the laboratory to storage areas for safe disposal; instructs, implements and enforces safety regulations
5% - Analyzes requirements for supplies an equipment needs for laboratories; makes solutions for laboratory experimental use
5% - Assists the evening instructor with laboratory setups and lab room activity and classroom demonstrations

Minimum Qualifications

  • College degree in physical science and/or related laboratory experience gained academically or in industry
  • Experience providing work direction to others
  • Experience with general laboratory safety
  • Computer experience using software such as Microsoft Office and Excel
Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with general laboratory operations and testing techniques including computer based laboratory experimentation
  • Knowledge of Chem Station software
  • Experience troubleshooting laboratory apparatus associated with computer based laboratory (Chem Station) software
  • Experience calculating concentrations and preparing chemical solutions
Special Working Conditions

Exposure to chemicals which may present health hazards if not handled properly; may be required to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.; evening and weekend hours required; some day hours required when class not in session.
