Athens Technical College in Athens, GA, seeks a Science Laboratory Manager. The Science Laboratory Manager will manage and supervise laboratory preparation and clean-up; supervise student workers and laboratory technicians; and order supplies and manage laboratory budget for physics, chemistry, biology, microbiology, and anatomy and physiology laboratories. The laboratory manager will use their skills and knowledge of safety and lab procedures to ensure that laboratories operate safely, smoothly and efficiently. The Science Laboratory Manager works cooperatively with science faculty to maintain chemical storage, equipment, and facilities in a safe and secure manner and to maintain chemical inventory and MSDS documentation.
The Science Laboratory Manager reports directly to the Dean of Life Science.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
Ordering supplies and manage laboratory budget for physics, chemistry, biology, microbiology, and anatomy and physiology laboratories.
Supervise student workers and laboratory technicians in a professional and supportive manner.
Manage and supervise laboratory preparation and clean-up.
Maintain chemical inventory and MSDS records.
Secure price quotes and maintain vendor records.
Assist with scheduling of science laboratories as needed.
Assist in setting up departmental laboratory practical finals as needed.
Coordinate chemical waste reduction, storage and disposal.
Maintain chemical storage, equipment and facilities in a safe and secure manner.
Coordinate scheduled and emergency service, maintenance and repair of equipment, instrumentation and facilities.
Maintain general equipment inventory for the Division.
Assist with maintenance of microbial stock cultures and cryostorage as needed.
Follow appropriate biohazard safety procedures.
Coordinate tours of facilities by high schools or other educational institutions as appropriate.

Bachelor’s degree in science or related field is required Supervisory experience, ordering experience, and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in academic or industrial laboratories required. The successful candidate must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and be a team player.
