Canon U.S. Life Sciences, Inc. is currently seeking a Scientist with experience in the life sciences industry. The incumbent in this position will perform molecular and biological testing used for the development of diagnostic assays and instruments. Relevant background includes knowledge of PCR, qPCR, primer and assay design, DNA sequencing, nucleic acid purification, nucleic acid quantitation, and gel electrophoresis.
Design, develop and validate PCR-based molecular diagnostic assays.
Purify, quantify and characterize DNA.
Assist senior scientists in performing functional testing on a novel diagnostic instrument.
Maintain impeccable records from raw data including data books and computer generated data files, quantitative analysis of data, laboratory protocols, and summary reports. Maintain lab equipment.
Present data to small working groups as well as to the larger project teams.
Required to handle biological materials, infectious agents and biological wastes. Occasionally may be required to work with hazardous chemicals.
Work in a dynamic matrix environment with moderate degree of independence. Cooperate with coworkers within an organized team environment and effectively communicate project status to supervisor.
Assist with special projects as needed.
Bachelor or Masters of Science Degree in biological sciences.
0-3 years (Master’s degree) or 2-5 years (Bachelor’s degree) bench-level scientific research in academic or industry environment, preferably in the life sciences industry. Clinical laboratory and assay validation experience is a plus.
Experience with Molecular Biology areas including assay and primer design, PCR, qPCR, DNA sequencing, nucleic acid purification, nucleic acid quantitation, and gel electrophoresis.
Strong analytical abilities required for design of experiments, data analysis, and reporting.
Must be able to maintain impeccable records from raw data including lab notebooks and computer generated data files, quantitative analysis of data, laboratory protocols, and summary reports.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, and the ability to function with moderate degree of independence are required.
