PURPOSE OF THE ROLE The Protein Engineering and Antibody Technology department is seeking a talented and innovative scientist to join the Antibody Technologies group in Billerica for the development of therapeutic antibodies. The successful candidate will design and execute independent research toward the isolation and screening of B cells from immunized animals. He/she will have a strong background in immunology, broad knowledge and deep understanding of the mechanism of the induction of antibody immune response. The candidate will be responsible for designing, developing and troubleshooting new methods to increase immune response in rodents and independently performing sorting of specific lymphocyte population. The successful candidate will also develop automated assays to assess functionality of antibody. This is a laboratory-based position. MAIN INTERFACES

      The candidate will primarily interact with other members of the Protein Engineering and Antibody Technology department located in Billerica and Darmstadt.

      • Demonstrated ability to independently design immunization and sorting of cell population strategies and binding assay (such as ELISA or FRET)
      • Perform multi-color cell staining for flow cytometry analysis
      • Develop and optimize new methods for B cell sorting
      • Initiate and champion new immunization strategies to break tolerance according to animal welfare guidelines
      • Design and perform animal immunizations, bleeding and tissue collections
      • Develop and optimize cellular assays for high-throughput functional hit screening
      • Generate, compile, analyze and present data in a clear, concise and highly organized manner
      • Assist in optimizing automated methods for antibody cloning and screening
      • Work with minimal supervision

            Ph.D. in immunology or molecular cellular biology with 0-3 years industry/post-doctoral experience or M.S. with 5+ years of relevant industry experience Fluent in written and spoken English PROFESSIONAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE Strong expertise with multi-color flow cytometry analysis. Experience in cell sorting is a plus. In-depth knowledge of rodent immune system and immunization methods Experience with mammalian tissue culture and transfection, immunoassay development, molecular biology Experience with basic molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, including PCR, cloning, Western Blot, ELISA, FRET Direct experience and knowledge of the design, optimization of cellular assays Experience with automation is preferred Highly motivated with ability to generate detailed written records and reports of the work accomplished in a timely manner PERSONAL SKILLS & COMPETENCIES Ability to work in an intense, fast paced and team environment Self-motivated Strong oral and written communication skills Strong organization and time management Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills Ability to multitask Ability to work independently or as a team member ADA REQUIREMENTS Normal and routine laboratory duties Equal Employment Opportunity The Company is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer.
