The Crucell Vaccine Institute (CVI), based in La Jolla and a part of Janssen Center of Excellence for Immunoprophylaxis, is focused on identifying novel approaches to disease prevention. At CVI, emphasis is placed on diseases that are on the rise, including those related to the worldwide aging population and increased traffic of infectious diseases due to urbanization.

The tumor immunology group is responsible for establishing and validating novel tools and assays for the design and study of novel cancer vaccine and immunotherapeutic targets. The team seeks to (i) promote functional anti-tumor immune responses via state-of-the-art vaccination strategies, and (ii) harness new insights into immune control of oncogenic microenvironments
The qualified candidate is a highly motivated, interactive, and creative individual that will join a diverse team of researchers in a fast paced and science-driven environment with the goal to develop novel vaccines for the treatment of cancer. The candidate is to work within the Tumor Immunology group, will have an interest in adenoviral vector-mediated tumor immunotherapy, and is expected to contribute to forming the strategy towards target validation, immunoassay development, and mechanism of action elucidation activities. Key responsibilities include the execution of scientific plans, interpretation of experimental results, and providing support to vaccine projects through the generation and characterization of recombinant viruses. Essential functions sought for this position include practical experience with adenovirus vector construction and flow cytometric-based cell sorting. This position requires a strong molecular biology and virology background. The candidate will also have broad prior methodological and technical experience to include ELISA, multi-color FACS analysis, and cell sorting. Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills are essential and the capability to effectively work in a team environment is required. The ability to initiate and coordinate both internal and external scientific collaborations is expected. Individuals with a strong publication record, and/or equivalent industry experience will be preferred.
Ph.D. or Ph.D./M.D. with solid virology and molecular biology technical skills and 1-3 years of productive research experience at the postdoctoral level in an academic, pharmaceutical or biotechnology drug/vaccine discovery environment is required. Demonstrated record of achievement in molecular virology, particularly as related to the generation and characterization of recombinant adenovirus is required. Experience with a broad range of contemporary methods and technologies used in cellular and molecular biology as well as in immunology is required. Prior cell-based, immunological, and biochemical assay development experience with a variety of technologies including cell sorting, multi-color flow cytometry, and ELISA is required. Extensive experience with aseptic techniques, maintenance of mammalian cell lines, and cell transfection/transduction is required. Outstanding experiment design, problem-solving, and data analysis skills are required. Excellent communication, presentation, collaboration, and organizational skills are required.
Experience with protein expression and purification is preferred. Experience working in a highly collaborative environment across different research disciplines preferred.
