This position will support the lead discovery and optimization of novel protein biomolecules across a variety of therapeutic areas. The candidate will be involved in the rational design, expression and purification of novel, difficult to express proteins and protein fusions from mammalian expression systems. In addition, this position will be involved in the design and construction of standardized cloning and expression vectors to improve processes both in prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems. Experience in the production and purification of antibody-based therapeutics is a plus.
The candidate must be able to function as an independent project leader with proven ability to manage the scientific direction of a highly productive scientific staff. This position 1) interacts and collaborates with local and remote research sites regarding protein expression and purification support for both internal and external projects, 2) actively interacts with the internal and external scientific community to maintain a state-of-the-art scientific knowledge including proactively investigating and developing existing processes and 3) provides supervision or mentorship and training to junior level scientists as needed.
This position will also contribute or write technical reports, prepare and present posters at national and international meetings and contribute to the preparation and submission of manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals. The candidate will also contribute to the preparation of invention disclosures and patent applications to secure intellectual property.
This role requires that the satisfactory candidate possess a Ph.D degree (or equivalent), with 0-3 years post-doctoral experience or a minimum of 12 years of experience performing progressively advanced duties beyond a B.S. degree.
Proficiency in all aspects of molecule design and molecular cloning.
Hands on experience in the expression of difficult to express, human, recombinant proteins from mammalian expression systems is essential.
Experience in purification of a wide class of recombinant molecules including antibody and non-antibody based therapeutics using classical and affinity purification methods.
Prior Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology and strong scientific experience will be a plus.
Ability to work in a very fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication skills.
Skilled in molecular biology techniques and their application as they pertain to the design of expression constructs and systems in order to maximize protein expression and optimize proteins for downstream uses. Expertise in the rational design, production and evaluation of novel proteins and protein-fusions. Background in protein fusion partners used to enhance both biophysical properties as well as PK properties of therapeutic molecules. Diverse knowledge and experience with mammalian expression systems. Experience with isolation and purification of proteins from both prokaryotic and eukaryotic sources using both classical and contemporary purification techniques. Experience in planning and directing the work of other employees’ work is essential. Ability to work in a team based environment with excellent presentation and communication skills. Ability to comprehend pertinent literature, to work independently and meet metric-driven timelines. Experience with surveying and generating pertinent intellectual property around technology development. Experience with management of laboratory inventory and capital equipment purchases. Peer reviewed publications are a must.
