Job Title: Secondary Science Teacher (licensed)
Department: Loring Nicollet Alternative School
Reports to: Program Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt (full time, August 2013-June 2014)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: the following duties are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.
  • Teach curriculum aligned to Minnesota Department of Education standards.
  • Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to students, parents and team members.
  • Adhere to and enforce agency, community center and school’s standards of behavior on a consistent basis.
  • Participate in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating curriculum and student learning.
  • Work cooperatively with peers on teaching team and community center staff.
  • May be required to carry out or assist with other tasks in addition to duties listed in position description.
Supervisory Responsibilities: No supervisory duties at this time.

  • Bachelor’s degree in secondary education or equivalent
  • State of Minnesota Certification in Science required
  • Training and experience in alternative school setting preferred
  • Training and experience in behavior modification techniques and class management preferred
  • Experience working with diverse at-risk youth population.
  • Training and experience in team teaching
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Training and experience in assessments and testing
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff, parents and administrators
Technology Requirements:
  • Ability to use office equipment including telephone and voicemail system, copier, printer, fax machine and scanner.
  • Ability to use MS Word and Outlook
  • Ability to navigate the internet, PPLnet (intranet) and electronic timecard system
  • Ability to navigate computer networks (files, drives, and folders)
Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in secondary education or equivalent
  • State of Minnesota Certification in Secondary Science.
  • Proficient in a second language (other than English) desirable.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, bend, and communicate. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10-25 pounds.
