The NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services provides services that promote and improve agriculture, agribusiness and forests; protect consumers and businesses; and conserve farmland and natural resources for the prosperity of all North Carolinians. The Department employs approximately 2000 employees.
The State Fair showcases and promotes the state's agriculture, agribusiness, arts and crafts ad culture through the annual agricultural fair as well as leases fairground property, on a short-term basis, during non-fair times to the best interests of the public. This position involves protective security with a large amount of contact with the general public. The responsibilities of this position include patrolling N. C. Department of Agriculture property and guarding against fire, theft, and vandalism. The employee will provide general information to the public and will interact frequently with vendors and contractors. Employee will respond to calls for serve as requested on property under the control of the N. C. Department of Agriculture. The employee will be required to wear a uniform and work rotating shifts. The day shifts are typically from 7 am until 7 pm. The night shift is typically from 7 pm until 7 am. The shifts include weekends and holidays. This position will require prolonged standing, walking, climbing of stairs and working in inclement weather. This employee will also be responsible for collection of camper fees and issuing receipts. Employee will monitor and operate Closed Circuit Television Surveillance System. Employee will receive work assignments from the Chief of Police or his designee.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
Applicant must have experience working security at a State Fair or large entertainment venue. Ability to respond to various emergency calls that include disturbances, fires, crowd control, etc. Employee should be able to utilize a computer and formulate a police report with experience in Microsoft Word and Excel. Employee must be capable of following written and oral instructions. Employee must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time, manage and direct traffic flow, climb stairs and work in inclement weather. Employee should have training in CPR. Employee must be able to collect camper and parking fees that are paid in cash, make change, issue receipts and accurately audit collections at the end of each shift. Employee must have experience retrieving data from a Closed Circuit Television Surveillance System. Applicants interviewed for this positions will be required to demonstrate knowledge, skills and abilities required of this position. Must possess or be able to immediately obtain a valid North Carolina driver's license.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Completion of 10th grade.
Preferences: Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years experience part time or full time working security at a State Fair or large entertainment venue. Prior experience performing security patrols in a vehicle and on foot.
