About The Port Authority
The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey is a bi-state public agency responsible for promoting transportation and commerce, operating some of the busiest and most important transportation links in the region including bridges, tunnels, bus terminals, airports, PATH, AirTrain systems, and the NY/NJ seaport.
Security Guards are responsible for protecting life and property at the Port Authority¿s various facilities. The Security Guard is responsible for observing activity at a particular post and reporting unusual occurrences to the supervisor. Security Guards perform routine monitoring and reporting duties and follow specific guidelines for observing and reporting incidents. You will be responsible to report malfunctions of equipment that may impact the security or well-being of the facility to a supervisor and/or facility management. In addition, you will verify pedestrian and vehicle authorization for access through an assigned post. Security Guards may be required to monitor CCTVs or other similar equipment and report irregularities as observed. The Security Guard interacts with the traveling public, staff at Port Authority facilities and staff at our partner agencies with courtesy and professionalism.
Security Guards are assigned to the Port Authority's Holland and Lincoln Tunnels. This is a 24-hour, 7 days-a-week operation that will involve working rotating shifts and/or irregular shifts and holidays.
Candidates must present the following qualifications in order to be considered:
The ideal candidate will present the following qualification profile:
- High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution
- Valid Driver's License
- 2 to 5 years experience in any one of the following positions or any combination of the following: Security Guard, Watchman or Police position, Service in the United States Military, in a police or military security position.
- College credits from an accredited institution of higher learning in Criminal Justice or Police Science at the equivalent rate of 32 credits per year. A lesser number of college credits will be prorated proportionately for lesser periods.
Qualified candidates will be invited to participate in intensive written and oral evaluation (interview) exams. Selected candidates will be subject to a comprehensive background check and will be asked to provide copies of credentials for verification.

- No color confusion or impairment color and depth perception
Compensation & Benefits
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package (subject to collective bargaining agreement) and a professional environment that supports development and recognizes achievement.
Salary: $15.63 hourly (subject to collective bargaining agreement)
