Security Officers aid in the protection of persons, property on the ACH campus(es). This includes a population of pediatric patients and their families, ACH and University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) employees/students, contractors, VIP guests and other visitors. ACH Security Officer's are armed with a firearm and other non-lethal weapons, and may utilize vehicular/bicycle/foot patrols, radio communications, electronic magnetic surveillance devices and computer-based surveillance/alarm systems to identify, assess and manage threats. The Officer performs/enforces a full range of threat management duties within the ACH workspace. This includes response to calls for emergency assistance involving violence, suspicion of child abduction, domestic disputes, fires, natural disasters, other internal/external emergency response situations, misdemeanor/felony crimes, pedestrian and vehicle accidents, investigation of suspicious activities, crime scene preservation and evidence collection, court testimony and other issues. Security Officers may engage in the apprehension of persons engaged in felonious conduct under Arkansas state law, be required to use physical and/or deadly force, conduct weapons searches, assist clinical staff in performing restraint/seclusion of patients, transport cash and other medically critical assets, provide assistance to local police, fire and other municipal services, perform vehicular transports of employees/visitors throughout the campus, write parking citations and perform accident investigations. Security Officers provide first responder first aid & CPR services, engage in executive/VIP protection and write detailed reports of their activities. Officers adhere to ACH protocol and decorum, perform customer service and wayfinding duties and promote Security Department best practices in individual and organizational security.
Patrol assigned areas to enforce ACH security/safety regulations and criminal/traffic laws. Transports high risk/critical ACH assets and supplies
Makes regular vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian rounds of assigned areas, enforcing hospital security & safety regulations.
Performs ongoing tactical security risk assessments of ACH buildings, critical property assets, parking areas, traffic flow and pedestrian movements. Takes immediate action to correct security & safety concerns, and communicates information about existing situations to appropriate leadership.
Investigates and engages in direct contact with suspicious persons and in suspicious situations.
Detains and arrests persons engaged in felonious activities as defined by Arkansas State and U.S. Federal law.
May utilize non-lethal physical force to provide clinical restraint assistance to medical personnel, for self defense or to affect a felony arrest.
May deploy deadly force where a threat to the officer's or another's life, or serious physical injury is reasonably foreseeable.
Utilizes a magnetometer to perform searches of individuals for the presence of weapons. Conducts searches of bags, packages and other items for the presence of weapons. Seizes and logs weapons located via search.
Write detailed reports of patrol activities.
Be in compliance with ACH’s Fleet Management Policy, drives ACH owned, leased, or personal vehicles frequently in the performance of essential job functions.
Engages in Emergency Response and Emergency Management
Responds to all Duress, Fire, Emergency Management or other alarms and drills within 4 minutes of receiving notice.
Provides critical tactical support for internal, external or weather-related disasters, including securing designated supplies and areas, providing disaster communications to campus facilities, access/egress management, and armed response.
Secures and searches facilities/grounds and interdicts suspicious persons in the event of a child abduction alarm.
Assists medical staff in clinically restraining high risk patients, and engages in 1:1 physical monitoring of high risk patients when requested by authorized medical personnel.
Coordinates with and assists federal, state and local municipal authorities in the event of national/regional/city-wide disasters.
Performs first responder first aid, CPR and/or utilizes AED devices in furtherance of providing aid.
Conducts in-person communications with all ACH campus facilities during emergency weather warnings (Code Tango) to ensure accurate warning messaging.
Strategic Assistance and Customer Service
Assists Social Work, the Emergency Department, Nursing Units and other areas with 1:1 monitoring of high risk patients, enforcement of visitor restrictions, counseling sessions with disgruntled families, etc.
Engage in protection details for VIP's, the Children's Education Center, construction projects and on-campus special events.
Transports cash & critical medical supplies/cultures to AR state regulatory/healthcare agencies.
Engage in patient and family contacts to promote security and safety messaging, assist with wayfinding, enforce campus smoking cessation restrictions, and provide traveler's assistance.
Assist local law enforcement with special crime enforcement initiatives such as on-campus back-up response,
wanted persons bulletins, roadblocks and crime intelligence, and providing testimony in criminal/traffic prosecutions.
Assist UAMS, Ronald McDonald, Justice Building and HIPPY facilities with emergency response and liaison with local law enforcement
Perform requested standbys for employee termination, security checks and door locks/unlocks for departments throughout the ACH campus.
Traffic and Parking Enforcement
Provides vehicular escorts to/from ACH employees from parking areas to campus facilities.
Facilitates roadside assistance on the ACH campus to include vehicle un-locks, battery jump-starts, flat tires, etc.
Reserves parking areas for ACH special events
Write parking citations and assist in booting or towing unauthorized vehicles from campus
Secures crime scenes for analysis by security leadership or local law enforcement.
Collects, transports, logs and stores evidence from the ED and other departments in the Security Services evidence storage area.
Obtains statements from victims, witnesses and suspects and documents same via security reports.
Uses computer based closed circuit television (CCTV) software to determine persons of interest, timelines and related investigative information.
Investigates on/near campus traffic accidents and vehicle breaking/entering, take statements, photograph fingerprint and secure evidence, provide assistance with law enforcement contact where appropriate.
Liaison with law enforcement and corrections officers on-site with incarcerated or criminally suspect individuals receiving treatment at ACH.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
1 year total experience required

Security Officer Commission (License)

Driver's License (Class D) with good driving record in Arkansas

Must be able to demonstrate competency in typing and computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Outlook
Must understand and adhere to the Mission of ACH.
Must be customer service oriented.
Must be 21 years of age.
Complete the ACH Security Officer Academy within 1 year of hire, scoring at least 80% academically and 80% on the range. Must complete physical fitness training as an element of the Academy, completing a minimum of 80% of physical fitness sessions.
Must qualify on the firearms range with a score of at least 80% before entering employment and 80% annually thereafter.
Must complete ongoing Security in-service training with a minimum score of 80% on all tested academic materials.
Must successfully complete a physical fitness assessment administered by the ACH Fitness Center, to include: Run/Walk 2000 feet in 8 minutes, pick up 50 lbs from squatting position, push/pull 80 lbs 100 feet, climb 4 flights of stairs in 90 seconds, 300 meter sprint in 2 minutes, kneeling and squatting for 30 seconds.
Must submit to a psychological assessment authorized by ACH Human Resources Department and be determined psychologically fit for duty.
