Work involves patrolling the grounds of the hospital, and watching an area of the hospital from a tower. Performs duties associated with changing and checking VCR tapes. Also, keeping daily tower reports, guarding against loss or damage from fire, theft, or vandalism, and preventing unauthorized departures of patients from Maximum Security Units. Receives general instructions from supervisor and work is reviewed at intervals and thorough results obtained. Works under the immediate supervision of a Security Shift Supervisor, with general supervision provided by the Assistant Director of Security. Must understand that duties, location of work, shift and shift patterns are subject to change as determined to meet the needs of the Hospital. Must maintain a driving record that allows for transporting of patients in State vehicles. Must be physically able to perform required duties. Must have vision appropriate to allow observation of grounds.
Essential Job Functions:
Employee actively participates and/or serves in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation.
Observes fence lines and surrounding area for possible unauthorized departure and reports anything suspicious within line of vision, to prevent unauthorized departures and to investigate concerns promptly. % Time Spent: 30%
Maintains communication with base station using the two-way radio and telephones to verify on-duty staff is constantly observing grounds. % Time Spent: 10%
Observes for all suspicious activities such as fires, vandalism, theft or inappropriate patient activity and question and report anything observed that does not seem appropriate, in order that all concerns may be investigated. % Time Spent: 15%
Monitors patients in a general hospital, per policy, to protect hospital staff, prevent unauthorized departures and to protect the patient. % Time Spent: 5%
Patrols grounds and checks doors to ensure a safe environment. % Time Spent: 15%
Verifies by observing that anyone entering and exiting the Maximum Security Unit has the proper identification badge to ensure only authorized personnel are entering and exiting and that a badge has not been lost. % Time Spent: 10%
Checks anyone entering the Maximum Security Unit utilizing metal detecting devices and search all carry in items to confirm contraband is not entering the Maximum Security Unit. % Time Spent: 15%
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Ability to work long hours in varying climate conditions; and to stay awake and alert if on a night shift
Registration or Licensure Requirements:
- Ability to remain calm and act quickly in emergencies
- Ability to maintain a driving record that allows for transporting of patients in State vehicles
- Ability to be flexible in location of work and shift patterns as determined by administration to meet the needs of the hospital.
- Ability to qualify in Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behavior yearly and be physically able to perform duties.

Initial Selection Criteria:
- Must produce a Type III (Life) Driving Record reflecting eligibility to transport patients within the State mandated 10 point system

One year experience working in a security setting or around potentially aggressive patients.
Must have a valid Driver's license.
NTSH-Vernon campus is a Maximum Security Forensic Hospital. The Shift is from 9:15pm to 5:15am and you will be working every other weekend.
