The National Aquairum is seeking a full-time Security Officer to assist with maintaining security of the Baltimore venue 24 hours a day and respond to urgent/emergency situations. Our Security Officers support the Visitor Experience and remain current on Aquarium news and information.
Essential Functions: Assists with maintaining the security of the building 24 hours a day.
o Responds to urgent/emergency situations such as required.
o Mans and monitors the Security Control area including receiving and relaying radio communications.
o Patrols the buildings and outside perimeter to protect staff and visitors.
o Maintains the safety of the property and animal collection.
o Controls vehicular traffic on the piers and in Gunther Circle. Compliance, certifications and support roles: Participates in coordination of the Aquarium and Department goals in the areas of visitor/staff safety.
o Completes certification program and serves as Crowd Control Manager, per State of Maryland Fire Prevention Code.
o Completes First Aid certification (optional). As needed, serves as First Responder, responding to medical needs from visitors/staff and advising appropriate action.
o Supports the Visitor Experience by being an informed Aquarium representative. Stays current on news and information by utilizing resources such as the Plan of the Day, attending the Morning Huddle, and contributing to Making Waves.
o Complies with ADA regulations.
o Assists with emergency and evacuation situations.
High School Diploma and 1 year Security experience required. Customer Service experience is a plus. All officers are expected to avail themselves of developmental trainings that may assist in the performance of their duties (i.e. Conflict Management, CPR/AED First-Aid Training, and Leadership Training). Become familiar with Fire Board and other operations systems, particularly in enabling/disabling administration of remote areas of the facility relative to these systems.
