The Security Specialist position is in the Personnel Security Division, Office of the Administrative Officer (OCAO), Office of Administration (OA), Executive Office of the President (EOP). the incumbent serves primarily as an adjudicator for backgrounds conducted for the Executive Office of the President, Personnel Security Division.

Use adjudicative guidelines to make initial security determination.
Adjudicate completed background investigations.
Review and evaluate personnel security files; make determinations to suspend or restrict access and clearances in accordance with agency policies.
Assess incoming personnel for suitability issues through interviews and various security checks.
Conduct in-depth interviews to obtain information needed to complete security and/or suitability assessments.
Provide guidance and direction on security concepts, principles and practices.
Properly safeguard national security information.
Implement procedures to ensure personnel handling classified material are appropriately instructed, cleared, and have a need to access.
Conduct briefings and debriefings for newly assigned and departing personnel.
Use and be responsible for the prompt updating of the EOP security database.
Use the e-Qip system and various other external security databases on a daily basis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: All applicants must meet the qualification requirements outlined below to be considered minimally qualified for this position. The qualification requirements are in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standards. ALL QUALIFICATIONS MUST BE MET BY THE CLOSING DATE OF THIS ANNOUNCEMENT.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility comparable to the next lower grade or comparable pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector. Examples of specialized experience are:
For the GS-12: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or comparable pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector performing the following: determining suitability and security eligibility of individuals for entry and retention in sensitive and non-sensitive positions; reviewing, evaluating, and/or adjudicating reports or investigations, personnel files, and other records to determine whether to grant, deny, revoke, suspend, or restrict security clearances consistent with national security and/or suitability issues; general knowledge of personnel security concepts, principles and practices; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a broad range of individuals.
