The procurement function enables the Chattem strategy by leveraging supplier markets and delivering added value in collaboration with internal clients and Sanofi’s regional/global procurement organizations.
Global Procurement designs and implements procurement strategies per category aligned with the business LRPs through a worldwide network of lead buyers and category managers.
Regional Procurement Units are in charge of executing and implementing the global purchasing strategies locally, developing active relationships with regional and local stakeholders, and contributing to the integration of the newly acquired business.
Chattem Procurement leverages and adopts the above as appropriate for the Chattem consumer operation, but also is responsible for developing unique Chattem strategies and solutions as required to support the consumer business model and unique mix of Chattem products and technologies.
These units have a common goal of business partnering, managed at strategic and operational levels, designed to set collaborative and innovative relationships with the business and supporting functions. To boost procurement efficiency and performance, the procurement organization fosters the right level of globalization through a category management oriented operating model.
The Senior (Lead) Buyer develops and is responsible for implementing sourcing strategies, as well as optimizing Procurement for his/her Category. His/her expertise helps improve efficiency/performance while meeting the needs of internal clients and the business, in accordance with the company’s Procurement processes, policies and procedures.
Procurement responsibilities may include strategy development, relationship management, contracts, negotiations, selection process, pricing/financial management and tactical execution processes. Overall activities would be in collaboration with Project Management, Quality, Product Development, Product Supply, Finance, and other support functions.
ESSENTIAL JOB KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Purchasing Strategy and Supplier Market Knowledge:
Define yearly category/segment strategies, projects, and savings objectives in collaboration with local cross-functional partners and regional/global procurement partners. Develop strategy implementation plans. Strategies and plans will include supplier base optimization and preferred suppliers, means to assure competitive sourcing through market analysis and benchmarks, risk and opportunity assessment, continuous improvement, trends in Chattem’s business, marketplace developments, etc.
The strategy and action plans will take a multi-year approach defining integrated short term and long term action plans to achieve long term strategic objectives.
Able to apply strategy and market skills to a variety of commodities and categories, including direct materials and services as well as indirect materials and services.
Business Integration and Partnership:
Maintain connections with the business to assure awareness of developing and projected key projects and business needs that will affect the supply base needs (technology, capacity, capabilities, etc)
Conduct spend analysis and sourcing plans to continuously add business value and enable achievement of financial goals.
Strategies will be in collaboration and alignment with key internal customers (commercial and operations)
Develop strong partnerships with key internal customers and drive productive and positive Operations, Product Development, Finance, Legal, and Quality relationships
Support and achieve targeted product launch and/or revision dates
Sourcing and Action Plan Execution
Effective “Supplier Relationship Management” for strategic suppliers, including business relationship, collaboration, strategic planning, cross-functional topics and participation, key internal customers and formal business and performance review meetings. Model will be scaled as appropriate based on business impact and risk profile of the suppliers.
Define action plans to achieve coverage/savings objectives and optimize the total cost of ownership.
Search and locate supplier options as required to achieve commercial and strategic objectives.
Facilitate and conduct cross-functional audits to support objective supplier selection process via a collaborative and documented process.
Tactical execution of orders and fulfillment in collaboration with Supply Chain and Quality.
Supplier performance management including formal metrics and reporting.
Leadership, cross-functional facilitation, and project management to identify and implement cost reduction projects, transitions to alternate suppliers, or to resolve substantive supplier performance or quality issues.
Continuous improvement for effective management of pricing and value chain total costs (i.e. total cost modeling)
Effective management of standard costs and purchase price variance. Proactive generation of savings/efficiency opportunities, thorough due diligence, and effective implementation.
Effective negotiation and development of supply contracts and ongoing management of addendums, revisions, extensions, notifications, etc.
Support departmental key performance indicators and adapt new indicators as needed
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND JOB-RELATED EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university
Business Administration preferred
JOB RELATED EXPERIENCE
5 years experience in a related field, including purchasing or business with sourcing and contract development experience. Prior consumer product and OTC experience desired.
