About KIPP Delta Public Schools:
The mission of KIPP Delta Public Schools is to create and support schools that empower students from underserved communities to develop the knowledge, skills, and character traits necessary to pursue a college education and a life of value, joy, and integrity.

We are a growing network of public schools offering a free, college-preparatory education to children in the Arkansas Delta. Across our four schools in Helena and Blytheville, we currently serve over 1,120 students and 80 alumni.

Position Overview:
The Senior Accountant will begin his/her role at KIPP Delta with on a focus on the strategic management of centralized purchasing, grants management, and the management of fixed assets across our network of schools. In doing so, the Senior Accountant will serve as a key member of the Finance/Operations team, ensuring that purchasing efforts meet the needs of the KIPP Delta Team and Family while minimizing budgetary impact and ensuring compliance.

The Senior Accountant reports to the Director of Finance. S/he is accountable to School Leaders, the HR Director, and the Director of Operations, and s/he will work to support the schools’ mission and culture of achievement.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide payroll and benefits management:
Conduct the semi-monthly processing of payroll for 180+ employees

Manage the annual processing of W-2s/1099s in coordination with the Staff Accountant

Process quarterly filings, which will include 941s, Employment Security and Arkansas Teacher Retirement (ARTRS)

Maintain all databases related to payroll, to include new hire reporting, APSCN, ARTRS, and any other

Coordinate with the HR Director on any other payroll-related systems, procedures, and policies

Direct the implementation of centralized purchasing:
Coordinate the process of selecting products and vendors in a manner that is consistent with our existing policies and procedures, while also assisting other staff members in doing the same

Recommend the cancellation of orders/contracts for non-compliance and/or non-performance

Maintain effective business relationships with other employees, vendors, and the public

Monitor employees and review purchasing processes for compliance with APSCN and other mandates as required by local, state, and federal regulations

Manage fixed assets:
Coordinate activities involving the inventory of products, services, commodities; including uniform inventory and sales, as well as all classroom and fixed assets

Monitor and audit transactions in the asset management system

Coordinate processes to avoid compliance-related penalties, which will include integrating fixed assets into APSCN

Ensure inventory levels are consistent to demand and instructional goals of KIPP Delta

Manage federal, state, and donor-specific grants:
Ensure compliance (financial and regulatory) with all grants

Submit monthly, quarterly and annual reports (with support from the Staff Accountant)

Stay abreast of new and innovative ways to utilize funding

Provide general accounting support:
Assist with month-end and year-end processes (including journal entries, bank reconciliations, and financial reports, audit, etc.)

Stay abreast of accounting practices and APSCN manuals regarding coding and internal chart of accounts

Perform other accounting, financial, or administrative tasks as may be required from time to time – quite often on short notice – by the Director of Finance and/or COO

Candidate Profile:
A Senior Accountant candidate must possess:
A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting

The ability to independently research and stay abreast of Arkansas laws related to accounting

The ability to rapidly adapt to new software and technology

Exceptional analytic, strategic, and problem-solving skills

Strong planning, organization, and project management skills, with the ability to identify numerous dependencies and integrate through a comprehensive plan of action

Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, high energy environment with a proven ability to meet multiple deadlines and tasks

A results-oriented, hands-on mindset and the dedication to get “the job done”

A Senior Accountant candidate will ideally possess:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fund Accounting

Experience and demonstrated success in Fund Accounting
