Sr. Accountant reports to the Senior Director of Finance, Controller. This position will support in the Controller in the areas of grant accounting and significant revenue recognition matters. Responsibilities regarding grant accounting will be preparing various schedules for audit purposes and compliance with federal laws. Responsibilities regarding revenue recognition will include working directly with various stakeholders on understanding contracts and preparing technical write-ups on individual contracts for revenue recognition processing. The candidate must be very hands-on, detail oriented, and have strong organization and communication skills. The position requires application of principals of accounting, compiling information, preparing analysis and trend reports, and utilizing appropriate accounting control procedures.
Key Accountabilities/Core Job Responsibilities:
•Collaborate with the sales organization, order management team and legal team to ensure revenue transactions are recorded in accordance with Company’s revenue recognition policy
•Review significant sales contracts for compliance with authoritative U.S. GAAP and the Company’s revenue recognition policy
•Document contractual terms and applicable technical accounting standards for significant/unusual transactions
•Drive application of technical revenue recognition concepts and maintain appropriate revenue recognition policies under U.S GAAP
•Collaborate with external auditors for quarter end review and year-end financial audit procedures
•Prepare revenue reporting for management purposes as well as other process and control improvements as required
•Perform technical research and be able to prepare position papers
•Take the lead in all revenue related process automations
•Maintain and update internal Sarbanes-Oxley documentation for revenue recognition and support audits of internal controls
•Support revenue recognition disclosures in all SEC filings
•Assist with and/or prepares necessary federal, state and local reports for compliance with Sunshine Act and other Federal Acts.
•Monitor and manage time tracking of employees for grants
•Review and enforce grant accounting policies
•Drive quarterly grant update meetings with R&D department heads
•Collaborate with external auditors for year-end grant audit procedures
•Prepare month end close journal entries related to grant accounting
•Collaborate with external tax preparers with grant accounting and R&D tax credit implications on corporate income tax returns
•Other duties may be assigned.
•Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required
•Comprehensive, working knowledge of GAAP;
•Strong communication skills (verbal and written); effective in interaction with senior management. Excellent computer skills, specifically Excel skills and other Microsoft applications;
•Must be a self-starter, able to work independently, and have excellent judgment and problem solving skills;
•Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
•Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration required.
•4-6 years accounting experience required.
•Experience in public accounting with the Big 4, national or regional accounting firm preferred.
•In-depth knowledge of US GAAP, especially revenue recognition principles.
•Detail oriented with strong analytical and communication skills.
