SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the lead senior accountant, performs a wide variety of general accounting functions in support of Steward Health Care System, LLC. The Senior Accountant is responsible for applying accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for the general ledger month-end close and presentation of the balance sheet and income statement results and analysis at the monthly hospital close meeting
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures
  • Ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met
  • Analyze and prepare month end revenue and expense variance reports between budget & actual results
  • Analyze and prepare month end accruals for high visibility accounts
  • Responsible for preparation of general ledger entries and reconciliations for month-end closing
  • Organize supporting back up this includes but is not limited to: journal entries, account reconciliation reports, and various supporting general ledger subsidiary schedules
  • Ensure balance sheet account reconciliations are completed on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis in preparation for the annual external audit.
  • Reviewed actual dollars for accuracy, completeness, and reasonableness, interpreting trends or deviations to review with lead senior accountant for recommendations on a corrective action plan
  • Monitor the implementation and maintenance of accounting control procedures
  • Respond to questions or problems pertaining to the monthly performance reports
  • Interact and develop relationships throughout the month, both on and off site with finance staff and directors located at the hospital(s)
  • Responsible for preparation for annual financial audit documentation
  • Provide support for tax filings
  • Identifies and review processing issues to your Lead Senior Accountant for assistance on proper resolution
  • Document and assist in the implementation of accounting and accounting control procedures; propose and update written procedures for the department as necessary
  • Regularly attends and participates in team and/or departmental meetings and activities
  • If hired with a CPA certification you must maintain licensing while employed with Steward Health Care, LLC

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum 2-3 years experience, MS,MBA,CPA preferable
  • Knowledge of US GAAP
