SENIOR ACTUARIAL ANALYST

We have an opportunity in San Francisco, CA for a Senior Actuarial Analyst to join our Rate and Forms Filings department in the Workers Compensation Specialty Division of Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies. This is a great opportunity for someone who wishes to build their expertise in workers compensation pricing, regulatory understanding, underwriting communication, and IT support of insurance business goals. Duties will include state rate adequacy evaluations; preparing and filing rates and rating programs with state departments of insurance and gaining their approval; developing actuarial pricing and analysis tools; and other duties as assigned. The successful candidate will likely have a bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related field and will have passed 3 or more actuarial exams. Experience in the workers compensation line is also preferred.
A Senior Actuarial Analyst applies technical, mathematical and business skills to assist in the analysis of corporate financial results, and operational and strategic planning issues.
•State rate adequacy evaluations
•Prepare and file rates and rating programs with state departments of insurance and gain their approval
•Develop actuarial pricing and analysis tools
•Loss Reserves analysis and Loss Development studies
•Frequency and Severity analysis
•Claims inventory forecasting
•Analysis of industry benchmarking data
•Other duties as assigned
•EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: The successful candidate will likely have a bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related field and will have passed 3 or more actuarial exams. Experience in the workers compensation line is also preferred.
•LANGUAGE ABILITY: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
•MATH ABILITY: Ability to comprehend and apply principals of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory. Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems.
•REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
•COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient on the Microsoft Professional Suite of software; Internet software, Vendor software and Billing systems.
