Job Scope

To provide independent analysis, monitoring, and reporting of credit risks across the investment portfolio, which includes both public and private asset classes (e.g., investment grade corporate fixed income, municipals, private placements, project finance, high yield corporate bonds, bank loans, structured securities, commercial real estate, and private equity) for the Risk Management Group within Allstate Investments.

The Senior Research Analyst will work directly with the Chief Credit Officer, and have direct dialogue and communication with portfolio managers across the investment organization, as well as individuals within the Portfolio Management Group, on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

The position will be responsible for many or all of the following tasks:

Monitoring the development of credit risk in the portfolios and across various investment markets; discussing these risks, Allstate’s relative positioning and trends with the Chief Credit Officer, senior analysts, and portfolio managers; and, facilitating the adequate resolution of credit related issues.

Implementing and maintaining real time and forward looking risk monitoring and reporting in these same areas, including continuously enhancing and developing new credit risk dashboards and reports.

Working alongside quantitative analysts within Risk Management to integrate quantitative risk analytics with fundamental and qualitative credit risk analysis to inform portfolio risk management views.

This may require working with quantitative analysts to collaborate on the design and development of new risk models.

Researching trends across sectors and markets to provide insights as to how these trends should influence Allstate’s measurement and management of risk in the portfolios.

Collaborating with the Chief Credit Officer and senior analysts/portfolio managers to develop new approaches to assessing risks at time of deal underwriting, particularly in private asset classes.

Adeptly responding to ad-hoc projects or requests and clearly presenting analysis and findings.

Qualifications

Experience

Minimum of seven years of fundamental fixed income credit analysis experience with exposure to a variety of sectors; trading experience a plus but not required.

Skills Required

Advanced understanding of fundamental credit analysis with a strong portfolio management mindset

Highly market aware--knowledge and interest across a wide variety of markets and sectors

Strong familiarity with Street and rating agency research analytics and tools

Basic understanding of quantitative risk management methodologies (e.g., value-at-risk), as well as their strengths and limitations

Ability to work independently, think out-of-the-box, and provide analysis and recommendations with credibility and confidence

Experience working with economic and financial data, and highly skilled at using Bloomberg, Barclays Live, and Excel

Strong communication and presentation skills and the ability to work effectively in a team setting

Education/Training Requirements

CFA or MBA strongly preferred
