Demonstrated experience in two or more of the following areas: (i) negotiating, drafting documents for and closing complex commercial real estate transactions (sales, purchases and leases), including analysis and resolution of complex title issues related to such transactions (ii) negotiating and drafting complex contracts, (iii) reviewing, drafting and advising clients regarding historic preservation, open space and other conservation easements, (iv) negotiating, advising and closing complex public procurements (vertical construction preferable), (v) litigating both routine and complex cases related to contracts, real estate, construction, and historic preservation/open space/conservation easements. Candidates should have a history of advising clients on both routine and complex matters, with an emphasis on the ability to communicate well with all levels of understanding regarding complex issues. Candidates must have excellent written and oral communication skills as evidenced by writing samples and references. Ideal candidate will have a minimum of five to ten years or more of relevant experience.
Must be admitted to Virginia Bar. This attorney will work as part of a team providing legal services to agencies in the Commonwealth on transactional real estate matters, historic preservation, open space and conservation easements, construction procurement and contracts negotiation, drafting and administration, and litigation of related matters in state and federal courts. The position may work with any and all agencies and institutions of the Commonwealth during the performance of these duties and may be called upon to mentor younger or less experienced attorneys in areas of expertise. Located in Richmond, this position reports to the Chief of the Real Estate and Land Use Section. As with all positions, other duties as necessary or appropriate may also be assigned. Some overnight travel may be required.
This is a senior position, although a candidate who does not meet the criteria for Senior Assistant Attorney General status may be offered an Assistant Attorney General position consistent with their experience level.
