The Senior Benefits Specialist provides benefit planning, implementation, project coordination, and analytical support for health and welfare benefit plans across Ascension Health. This position may interface with Ascension Health Ministry Service Center staff to assist in resolution of escalated Health and Welfare plan administration issues. Other areas of focus for this position include staff development, financial management and reporting, and plan design analysis for Health Ministries that participate in Systemwide health and welfare benefit programs.

Works in partnership with Health Ministry staff and Compensation & Benefits Team members to assure the successful delivery, management, and analytical support of system-wide benefits programs.
Supports strategic health and welfare projects and implementations consistent with project scope, timelines, and expectations.
Responsible for maintenance of databases and financial modeling tools to support the systemwide medical plan stop loss program. Uses these tools to perform financial analysis of stop loss program, including funding projections, experience ratings, etc.
Analyzes trends and metrics in benefit program performance and utilizes analysis to recommend areas for focused management and/or plan design changes
Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to benefits plans, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Assists with resolution to complex health and welfare plan issues that are not resolved by the Ascension Health Ministry Services Center
Develops reports and presentations that provide insight on a variety of topics to help inform management and key stakeholders on the status of programs and key projects.
Performs other duties commensurate with the position.

Requires a minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management, or related field.
At least five years progressive experience in benefit plan design and administration. Demonstrated skill and experience in financial analysis and reporting and the ability to interpret plan language and perform reconciliation of various insurance programs. Comprehensive knowledge of benefits principles, regulations and laws is required.
CEBS or similar professional certification desired.
The position requires a mature individual who is conscientious, detail-oriented, and highly organized with the ability to schedule and complete a significant amount of work within time requirements. The individual must have excellent analytical and presentation skills (both written and verbal). The position requires the ability to work both independently and as a team member to impact and influence business decisions.
