The Senior Benefits Analyst, Mercer Retirement Administration (MRA) will set up or complete work for a client/project team, which involves documenting requirements and building or performing administration services for clients. This includes performing basic and complex pension calculations under defined benefit plans, reviewing calculations performed by other Benefits Analysts, assisting with design changes and testing the system. To fulfill this role, the Senior Benefits Analyst, MRA will:
Analyze and translate pension plan documents to complete or provide final peer review of basic pension calculations performed by others ensuring accuracy against plan documents for defined benefit pension plans. Use this knowledge to design, develop, or update system, calculator, database and web, and for the testing of systems and tools.
Identify and resolves issues that affect accuracy. Suggest process improvements to management
Audit and reconcile pension data to set up historical data or to maintain current data. Report and work with client to resolve discrepancies.
Answer participant calls; follow-up with research on participant questions and paperwork (applies only to the Pension Administration Services group positions).
Assist in new client transitions by drafting calculation, web and process manuals or specifications, trust processes, participant communication and other projects given by the transition team.
Project management responsibility for client processes, ensure tests are completed thoroughly and timely, and identify items outside our scope of services
Provide guidance and training to client teams and serve as a subject matter expert. Professionally and effectively communicate with team- internal or external- regarding status, delivery dates and risks.
Analyze legislative and regulatory summaries and ensure compliance for all client work. Adherence to all established standards
BA/BS degree required in Math, Business, Statistics, Finance or Programming
3-5 years of defined benefits experience and/or experience automating solutions for pension benefit calculations
Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Word
Working knowledge of actuarial concepts and calculation methods, e.g. actuarial factors and commutation functions. Solid knowledge of the IRS code and DOL rules and regulations as they apply to defined benefit plans and procedures including: the Pension Protection Act, 401(a)(17), 415(b), 417(e), Relative Value and RASD
Ability to work in a team environment with rapidly changing priorities and demands. Demonstrated leadership experience within a team environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills; strong oral and written communications skills; ability to communicate technical information in a way that others can understand. Ability to interpret plan documents, provisions and administrative practices
