Senior Build/Release Engineer, Blackboard Mobile *NO Visa candidates*

San Francisco, CA

Supporting the hundreds of thousands of students, faculty and alumni who use our products, our state-of-the-art Mobile infrastructure handles significant and growing volumes of data from ingestion to delivery. We're looking for a Senior Build & Release Engineer to join our growing DevOps and Reliability Team. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with continuous integration systems and administering Linux-based, open-source infrastructure systems with an eye on automation, preferably in support of highly available web and mobile applications. The right individual will be highly motivated, with a positive, “can-do” attitude and a passion for delivering technical solutions in a fast-paced environment.

  • Operating and maintaining Blackboard Mobile’s application ecosystem, cloud and physical Infrastructure
  • Leveraging current and cutting edge technologies while testing bleeding edge technologies for future use
  • Deploying new projects and setting up continuous integration
  • Supporting and building upon system automation and deployment tools
  • Configuring, monitoring and administrating Linux and Mac OS X systems
  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues related to mobile applications development and deployment
  • Creating and maintaining documentation
  • Participating in 24/7 on-call rotation
  • Self-starter, desire to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • 5+ years of professional Linux-based system administration (CentOS, RHEL)
  • 3+ years experience building and supporting continuous integration systems (Bamboo, Jenkins, TeamCity, etc)
  • 1+ years experience writing and supporting deployment scripts in Capistrano
  • Experience with one or more languages (Ruby, Objective-C, Python, Node.js)
  • Configuring, monitoring and administrating Linux and Mac OS X systems
  • Experience using and administering software version control systems (SVN, Git)
  • Hands on experience administering and supporting an environment with multiple servers (50+ servers)
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, capable of conducting technical discussions in English
  • Previous work experience in a start-up environment
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred, but proven industry experience without a degree will still be considered
  • Experience with system automation tools (Chef, Puppet, CFEngine, etc)
  • Experience with open source technologies and the desire to give back to the community
  • Familiarity with Atlassian Suite (Confluence, JIRA, etc.)
  • Experience with synchronous and asynchronous queuing systems (RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, etc)
