What’s the gig? We are seeking a Sr. Coding Specialist with a nursing degree. In this role you will be responsible for the review and analysis of medical malpractice claims, including data classification, data entry, and clinical narrative preparation. Ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data entered. Work closely with CRICO Coding Manager to insure inter-rater reliability within CRICO and other CRICO clients. Create a comprehensive clinical narrative of the care provided in each case reviewed. Identify the contributing factors related to the claim and care rendered. Analyze the contributing factors related to the claim and care, looking for trends and patterns in the information that may assist the risk management team in preventing these types of claims in the future. Develop case abstracts to promote learnings surrounding key risk management issues. Document and communicate this research with team members on a regular basis.
What creds do I need? Bachelors Degree in Nursing required. Strong clinical background in healthcare. Extensive nursing and/or medical records experience of at least 15 years. Solid knowledge of medical terminology. Broad knowledge of healthcare organizations/providers, clinical risk management, safety, regulatory requirements, and health care quality and accreditation functions. Must be very detail oriented. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong analytical skills. Must be able to read claim file and medical record and synthesize the essence of the event. Ability to develop case abstracts to promote learnings surrounding key risk management issues. Ability to work independently. Strong decision making skills. Strong time management and organizational skills. Basic computer skills with Microsoft Office suite, including Word and Excel.
