Reviews official medical records with physician/healthcare provider documentation and assigns appropriate codes for all physician/healthcare provider services from current editions of official coding sources. Ensures accurate, complete, and timely code assignments for all physician/healthcare providers.
Position Specific Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the CPT , ICD -CM, and HCPCS nomenclature, coding rules and guidelines.
- knowledge of inpatient and outpatient medical records processing and federal and state reimbursement regulations.
-Assist in the supervision of the Coding & Reimbursement Specialist.
-Troubleshoot and identifies any system errors in EMR and Centricity Business.
-Assists with Physician and staff trainings.
-Performs other duties as assigned
A minimum of two years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role. Knowledge of the CPT , ICD -CM, and HCPCS nomenclature, coding rules and guidelines; knowledge of coding software applications, preferred; Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages, understanding of medical terminology and body systems/anatomy and physiology and concepts of disease processes; knowledge of inpatient and outpatient medical processing and federal and state reimbursement regulations. Dependable in both productions and attendance. Strong problem solving skills, self-starter, ability to function with little or no supervision; ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of database software; spreadsheet software and word processing software. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship under stressful situations. Must have the ability to effectively, excellent interpersonal skills and knowledge of federal and state reimbursement regulations. Be able to work extended hours and on weekend on occasion.
-Performs and monitors audits on departmental coders.
-Internal and External review of Medical records for Audits.
Attends MPIP and Compliance meetings/ in-services and any departmental meetings.
-Travels to and from clinic as necessary for meetings, in-services and trainings.
- A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of three (3) years of coding and reimbursement experience that includes procedural and diagnosis coding.
Current certification through the American Health Information Management Association ( AHIMA ) in the following areas:
Current certification through the American Academy of Professional Coders ( AAPC ) in of the following areas:
- Certified Coding Specialist-Physician based ( CCS -P)
- Certified Coding Specialists ( CCS )
- Certified in Healthcare Privacy ( CHP )
- Registered Health Information Administrator ( RHIA )
- Registered Health Information Technician ( RHIT )
- Certified Coding Associate
- Certified Professional Coder ( CPC )
- Certified Professional Coder-Hospital ( CPH -H)
- A Bachelor’s degree in Business or related area.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to write clear, concise reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Bilingual capability (English/Spanish) preferred.
