Position Title: Senior Commodity Manager

Position Location: Buffalo, NY.

Position Summary:

The Senior Commodity Manager is part of the global commodity team. The Senior Commodity Manager is responsible for quality, delivery, cost fficiency and sustainability of the direct material commodity and supply throughout the product lifecycle on a global level.

Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Procurement/Purchasing, Supply Chain, Finance, Business Administration or Engineering, MBA preferred.
  • 5-7 years of progressive supply chain/purchasing experience with at least 5 years of commodity management experience. Experience of the commodity Petrol Power Components is an advantage.
  • 5+ years of significant managerial and leadership experience, including management of international teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects across several business units and manufacturing locations.
  • International sourcing experience.
  • Strong knowledge of various commodity and currency markets.
  • Project management & problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated supplier management skills.
  • Ability to foster cross functional and cross business collaboration.
  • Advanced knowledge of procurement and logistics best practices.
Position Duties and Requirements:
  • Be ultimately in charge of all commercial relationships with suppliers within the commodity on the global level, securing targeted levels of cost, quality, delivery precision, sustainability, etc.
  • Form a long term strategy of how to deliver the greatest value for a global commodity and crafting a plan how to achieve it.
  • Maintain personal knowledge of market trends including rigorous analysis of market drivers, cost structures and technical improvements.
  • Drive value by implementing strategic sourcing and entering into cost efficient agreements that fulfill supply requirements, by using a systematic methodology and a continuous total cost of ownership focus.
  • Oversee the negotiation, development and maintenance of vendor agreements.
  • Lead critical negotiations.
  • Manage supplier relationships to drive supplier performance, contract effectiveness, collaboration and integration and deliver improved result.
  • Build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with key vendors within the commodity with the objective of reducing costs and eliminating efficiencies.
  • Manage a global commodity ensuring alignment to the commodity strategy and plan. Ensure commodity teams share leading practices and lessons learned, use consistent methodologies, and pursue deliverables that are
    aligned with the corporate, purchasing and commodity objectives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal customers and other functions to ensure continuous improvement and that service level commitments are met.
  • Develop cost engineering expertise and drive demand management to optimize lifecycle cost.
  • Keep a pulse on Best Cost Country Opportunities as they relate to assigned commodities and develop transition plans to Best Cost Countries where appropriate.
  • Prepare, develop, and review reverse auction process, including detailed bid information, analyze detailed results, negotiation, and execution of contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
  • Advise Management on a continuing basis regarding: commodity cost trends, material availability, alternative materials; make vs. buy options, and supplier labor situations.
  • Assure proactive linkage and required reconciliation of global commodity strategy to the related product management strategies.
  • Maintain personal knowledge of market trends including rigorous analysis of market drivers, cost structures and technical improvements.
  • Responsible for quarterly executive business reviews of strategic sourcing plan that defines, among other things, product roadmaps, supplier capabilities and annual / quarterly strategic business objectives.
