The Opportunity

To support our goals in this area, we are seeking a Senior Communications Specialist for our San Diego office. The Senior Communications Specialist will work closely with the Director of Communications and the Corporate Communications team, and will be responsible for the design, delivery and ongoing development of both external and internal communications that support the enterprise, with a strong focus on external communications. This includes Internet content, Encore corporate communications, press releases, media bulletins, and press and analyst relations. This position will lead, support and manage various projects supporting Encore business needs, including offsite events, agency and vendor management, and building and maintaining relationships with the investor community, key reporters, and media agencies. The individual must have strong public relations and business acumen and an understanding of the key elements for strategic corporate messaging and storytelling. This individual must be technology-savvy and have superior writing, editing, and relationship management skills, and must be able to manage various workflows and balance competing interests and priorities. Additionally, this individual will provide writing and messaging support to the Director of Communications and senior leadership across the company.

Primary responsibilities include:
Co-manage outside agencies and vendors to ensure the production of creative, high-quality, cost-effective communication solutions (e.g., policy briefs, press releases, media statements, and presentations)

Maintain relationships with reporters, analysts, and media agencies, proactively identify media opportunities, and organize public relations events

Support the execution of long-term strategic communication plans (covering external needs, internal partnerships, and executive support)

Provide communication support to departments, investor relations, and functional areas, and partner with Human Resources to align employee communications and messaging to corporate strategy and objectives

Provide writing and messaging support to the Director of Communications and senior leadership across the company

Provide support for the company’s online presence (including web sites, social media, etc.)

Required skills, education, and experience:
Undergraduate degree in Communications, Marketing, English, or related field of study

Familiarity with web design and editing tools, especially WordPress and SharePoint

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Products, including Word and PowerPoint.

Exceptional writing, editing, communication and negotiation skills. Strong history of cross-group collaboration and teamwork.

Desired skills, education, and experience :
Experience and skills with SharePoint and WordPress are highly desired. Additionally, experience with PR Newswire and Thompson Reuters online toos is desirable but not required.

In addition to very strong Word and PowerPoint skills, desired proficiency with Social Media tools and platforms.

Strong history of written work, experience writing in/for/about Financial Services and/or Consumer Finance industry.
