As a Senior Corporate Audit Associate at Plum Creek, you will help the team execute our annual plan which is designed to address the Company's risks to its strategic objectives including: ensuring accurate financial reporting, growing and protecting shareholder value, and preserving our REIT structure. In this role you will assist the Corporate Audit leadership to complete the annual enterprise risk assessment process which determines where we focus resources each year. You will have the opportunity to work closely with accounting and operations management on audit procedures and new business initiatives in our timberland, real estate, manufacturing and energy and natural resource business segments which operate across the US.
This position is highly visible to all segments and many levels of the organization from Vice Presidents through entry-level employees. You will have the opportunity to build relationships throughout Corporate, Manufacturing, Resources/Forestry, Real Estate, Accounting, and Legal. You will have the opportunity to develop your career in Auditing while learning and building your business acumen. This will facilitate your growth within our Audit group or may provide opportunities for a career track in Finance/Accounting, Operations, or other areas. Some of the alumni from this team have grown into roles within Real Estate, Acquisitions, Business Development, Accounting, and general Business Analyst roles.
As a Senior Corporate Audit Associate, you will:
Assist with the continuous risk assessment process and development of the annual risk based audit plan
Test internal controls over financial reporting for Sarbanes Oxley compliance
Evaluate operational processes for efficiencies
Assist in the preparation of audit reports that document audit scope, procedures, findings and recommendations
Coordinate with the Company's external auditors to support their annual audits over the financial statements and internal controls
Assist with the preparation and delivery of presentations to management that highlight audit project results
Identify and research technical accounting issues
Project examples for 2014 include:
Performing a risk assessment for a new business line
Reviewing the integration of a newly acquired business in the Southeastern United States
Performing inventory observations at our manufacturing facilities in Northwest Montana
Participating on our implementation team for the new 2013 COSO internal control framework
Education & Certifications: Bachelor's in Accounting required; Passage of the Certified Public Accounting (C.P.A.) exam preferred
Experience: 4 or more years of total accounting and/or auditing experience required; 2 or more years of public accounting or similar experience required; 2 or more years of private industry experience preferred
Hands on experience researching and concluding on technical accounting topics such as revenue recognition, tax accruals, leasing, long lived assets and impairments, business combinations, equity method investments, joint ventures and inventory costing
Experience planning and executing audits and reporting on results
Propensity to dive deep into details and willingness to "roll up the sleeves" to accomplish team objectives on time
Excellent communications skills, including experience communicating to senior management
Ability to identify and communicate, in a simple manner, the root causes of issues within complex situations or large data sets
Ability to earn the trust of operations personnel by applying sound business judgment
Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, including familiarity with the COSO internal control framework
Past responsibility for accounting activities during month-end close
Experience with ERP systems, sub modules and analysis of transaction flows within and between systems
Experience with IT systems, including IT general controls
SEC and financial reporting experience
Understanding of Corporate tax concepts
Travel Requirements: Up to 25%
Compensation & Benefits:
Targeted starting base salary: $58,400 to $77,400
Targeted annual bonus: 22%
