Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York seeks a Senior Data Repository Specialist to advance and support the Medical Center’s development and maintenance of clinical data repositories for the purpose of large scale outcomes research. Maimonides Medical Center is a major teaching hospital offering primary, secondary and tertiary care. More than 400 physicians, nurses and other medical professionals deliver care to patients, amounting to 700 inpatient beds, 47,000 inpatient visits, 210,000 outpatient clinic visits, and more than 110,000 Emergency Room visits each year.
The Senior Data Repository Specialist will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to conceptualize, build and maintain research data repositories/warehouses in targeted areas of medicine. He/she will coordinate closely with clinicians, IT staff, and research staff, to extract relevant data from hospital electronic medical records systems. Must demonstrate success with data warehousing methodologies and tools, as well as be familiar with other data analysis methods and software. The successful candidate must be proficient in the principles and best practices in many of the following areas: Program and Project Management (PPM), Health Information Exchange (HIE), HL7 Clinical Document Architecture (CDA), HIPAA, XML, UML, and Web Services. The position is part of the Office of Research Administration.
Undergraduate degree in computer science, information systems, or equivalent; graduate degree preferred
At least 5 years of experience working with health care-related data (public health, administrative, electronic medical record data, medical informatics, performance reporting, clinical trials)
Demonstrated experience in data mining, cataloguing, documentation and organization
Knowledge of best-practice approaches for data warehouse platform architecture
Knowledge of medical terminologies, and issues related to building and operating a unified data system for research, education, and clinical care delivery
Experience designing and implementing data transformation (ETL) processes, include error-handling and alerting, in commercial ETL tool sets and scripting/programming languages.
Experience with large scale master data and metadata management
Strong analytical and critical thinking and aptitude for problem solving required
Familiarity working with electronic health record systems such as MOSAIQ, PeriGen, Sunrise Clinical Manager and NextGen a plus
Excellent project management skills, preferably in a clinical healthcare setting
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team
