The purpose of this position is to ensure the stability, integrity, and security of enterprise database platforms. Extensive knowledge in the design, implementation, maintenance, optimization, and recoverability of database systems is required. Extensive knowledge in database technologies, protocols, and tools including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, XML, .NET, SQL Scripting and PL/SQL is required. Experience with application design and development and understanding of the software development lifecycle is required. Proven experience and success in database capacity planning, database security principles, and general database management procedures with large-scale OLTP, RDBMS, and Business Intelligence platforms is required.

Responsibilities:

Support and maintain enterprise database platforms by monitoring and improving database performance and capacity, and planning for future expansion requirements.

Implement, configure, design, and troubleshoot database instances, replication, backup, partitions, storage, and security access.

Provide support for enterprise database integration, including: business intelligence, data warehouse, reporting, and application development.

Monitor and test database performance and provide database performance statistics and reports.

Train and mentor database administrators by reviewing work flows, documenting information, and providing guidance for other functional areas.

Assesses new technology products and services by meeting with vendors, consultants, and strategic partners, providing management oversight of projects, and determining the viability of new products and direction.

Assists in budget preparation by making recommendations for software, hardware, and services for database systems.

Qualifications:

1. Provide technical leadership and support for enterprise database and business intelligence infrastructure. 2. Proven experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle databases. 3. Experience in project management and project management methodologies. 4. Experience in custom application development and software development methodologies. 5. Experience with business intelligence and data analysis platforms.

Formal Education

Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.

Experience

Over five years up to and including seven years.

Supervision

Work requires functioning as a lead worker performing essentially the same work as those directed, and includes overseeing work quality, training, instructing, and scheduling work.

Human Collaboration Skills

Decisions regarding implementation of policies may be made. Contact may involve support of controversial positions or the negotiation of sensitive issues or important presentations.

Freedom to Act

Receives Limited Direction: The employee normally performs the duty assignment according to his or her own judgment, requesting supervisory assistance only when necessary. The assignment may be reviewed upon completion. Performance is reviewed periodically.

Technical Skills

Advanced: Work requires advanced skills and knowledge in approaches and systems, which affect the design and implementation of major programs and/or processes organization-wide. Independent judgment and decision-making abilities are necessary to apply technical skills effectively.

Budget Responsibility

Does research for budget documents; and compiles data for computer entry; enters or oversees data entry. Has responsibility for monitoring budget expenditures (typically non-discretionary expenditures) for a work unit of less than a department size, i.e. program, projects, or small organizational units.

Reading

Advanced - Ability to read literature, books, reviews, scientific or technical journals, abstracts, financial reports, and/or legal documents. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in at the college level or above. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.

Math

Advanced - Ability to apply fundamental concepts of theories, work with advanced mathematical operations methods, and functions of real and complex variables. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in at the college level or above. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.

Writing

Advanced - Ability to write editorials, journals, speeches, manuals, or critiques. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in at the college level or above. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
