TITLE: Senior Designer
REPORTS TO: Design & Production Manager
COORDINATES WITH: Communications & Community Engagement, Creative, Web and New Media, Policy & Research, Campaigns, Private Sector, Organizing & Alliances, Resource Development, Direct Marketing, Donor Services, Humanitarian Response, Public Figures, suppliers and vendors.
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Senior Designer is responsible for the design and production of Oxfam America print publications and electronic products, providing strategic advice to the Design & Production Team. The Senior Designer will work within an existing brand identity and continue to apply and expand the brand as appropriate and guided by the Design & Production Manager PRIMARY
Conceptualize, design, and produce a variety of Oxfam America print and electronic materials from concept to delivery, including but not limited to magazines, financial appeals, reports, postcards, brochures, information packets, annual reports, cards, websites, banner ads, interactive animations, and other promotional materials. Also responsible for development and production of existing designs, and templated publications.
Work independently on projects with limited supervision and art direction from the Design & Production Manager.
Independently lead large-scale, multi-stakeholder Creative team initiatives from concept through production.
Support Design & Production Manager to expand, develop, refine, and roll-out the Oxfam America brand. Advise consultants on proper use of brand.
Lead designer for Oxfam America's Policy & Campaigns division.
Lead in development of new communications products and templates for publications and electronic communications, to be used by freelance designers and departments throughout Oxfam America.
Advise Production staff in developing schedules.
Work with Communications staff and individuals from other departments throughout Oxfam America to develop publications and interactive content within specified timeframes.
Work with Production Lead and printers, and manage production of assigned projects. Attend press-checks as required or requested.
Work with freelance designers, contractors, and interns, providing design guidance on projects as necessary.
Lead design presentations and project roll-outs to internal clients.
Provide creative and design direction to junior Design & Production staff.
Become familiar with, apply, and develop brands for Oxfam campaigns and other Oxfam initiatives as needed.
Engage in brainstorming sessions with the Communications Department, providing creative leadership on projects.
Play key role in assisting Design & Production Manager in strategic direction and issues on Creative Team. Manage graphic supplier relationships effectively and efficiently. Evaluate and recommend new technologies.

B.A. in related field or equivalent experience
Experience and Core Competencies:
At least 5 years of design experience in both print and interactive media.
Fluency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat), and Macintosh operating system.
Experience with Flash.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
Ability to multi-task, prioritize, meet deadlines, and handle multiple projects.
Ability to complete a wide array of design tasks with limited supervision.
Ability to work on a team of creative individuals (writers and designers) to service client needs and see projects through to fruition.
Ability to provide design guidance and leadership to more junior staff.
Understanding of print-production process and ability to work with printers through production. Must be capable of learning these skills.
Expertise/advanced knowledge with Microsoft Office as a design tool.
