We are currently searching for a Senior Designer. This position requires an individual with excellent graphic design skills and a wide range of design capabilities to execute projects for print and web applications tailored to meet Saint-Gobain business goals on schedule and within budget. They must have a strong understanding of how design solutions relate to marketing. It is expected that they have strong business acumen as well.

Collaborates with others to assist in strategic thinking. Proactively questions the direction set forth by the creative brief and/or design concept if the solution is not appropriate or recommended for best results. Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to collaborate with the internal team and also the ability to convey how their design solution accomplishes the business objective set forth. Conforms to corporate standards guidelines and keeps a consistent design look and feel within the product family collateral when appropriate.

The individual in this position must exhibit exceptional problem solving skills, especially under narrow parameters and very strict budget restraints. They must be a strong, conceptual thinker who possesses a wide range of design capabilities including a solid background in print, packaging, branding, typography, catalog production and front-end interface design, etc. The individual will be involved with projects from conception through final execution as needed. Note: no programming/coding skills are required in this position.

It is expected that the individual will be able to work quickly and efficiently and be open and receptive to design critique and also able to present their own work. They should be self-driven, proactive and a team player, someone who is passionate about design, wants to work in a collaborative setting and takes pride in the work they do.

Job Responsibilities:
CONCEPTING/DESIGN
•Concepting/design for print (ex. launch campaigns, brochures, advertising, logos, packaging, corporate reports, trade show graphics, etc.) as well as front-end web design (ex. external or internal website concepts, email blasts, mobile application interface, etc.)
NOTE: this position is not required to handle any programming/coding, strictly front-end design for web and mobile applications
•Works with Creative Director, other full-time and/or freelance designers, copywriters and multimedia/technical staff for concept, execution and implementation of projects
•Completes initial research and brainstorming for concept, sketches, collects reference materials, etc. for Creative Director’s review that honor parameters established by the creative brief satisfying the business goal
•Collaborates with Creative Director for initial direction and approval of concept prior to design execution
•Executes computer design in appropriate software (ex. Adobe Creative Suite’s Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, etc.)
•Selects appropriate stock photography, illustration, typography and color palette
•Assist in scheduling/directing new photography or illustration depending on the project and as requested
•Assists business relations team with presentation of initial concepts to client as determined by Creative Director and Business/Account Partner
•Must possess solid presentation, listening and communication skills
•Ability to focus, with a keen attention to detail
•Completes client and/or copywriter’s revisions
•Checks their own work for accuracy
•Preparation and transmission of final files for print
•Reviews printer proofs
•Archives and maintains digital files of client materials and resources
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
•Strong organizational skills in order to juggle multiple projects at the same time.
•Successfully manages their own time, work flow and schedule in order to meet strict and aggressive deadlines and adheres to approved budget
•Immediately communicates project status, issues and scope creep with project team
•Works with Business/Account Partners to determine design hours for estimates and print quote specifications
•Manages tasks within the online traffic/billing software on a daily basis
RESEARCH
•Researches design industry trends, techniques and best-practices
•Researches industry trends and products of our client partners’ businesses and collects examples of their competitors’ marketing collateral for reference (when available/applicable)
•Maintains high skill levels in current industry software programs required to perform assigned job functions and researches time-saving tips and tricks for workflow efficiency
•Communicates findings with staff on a regular basis for group learning
MISCELLANEOUS
•As assigned by manager
Skills and Requirements:
Bachelors’ degree and/or graduate of commercial art school and advanced knowledge of marketing and business acumen required
5 to 8+ years of experience working within a design firm and/or other creative team environment. Extremely proficient in design/advertising and using the complete range of computer tools such as the Adobe Creative Suite of design products (CS5.5).
Excellent time management, project management, communication, organization, presentation and interpersonal skills are necessary. The ability to guide a team and work co-operatively across all creative functions is also needed.
