PURPOSE:
To substantially increase donations for Oxfam America from US foundations and non-US government funders.

To support and manage requests from other Oxfam affiliates to access US foundation donors.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Requests from other affiliates to access US institutional donors

Review requests from other Oxfam affiliates to unilaterally access US foundations or corporations. Ensure proposals are consistent with Oxfam America fundraising plans and needs. Refer requests to the donor Account Manager for decisions on approval or denial and transmit the decision to the requesting affiliate.

Ensure all approved proposals follow appropriate proposal structure and formatting, comply with donor standards, and meet deadlines. Working with ISD and Finance, and ensure submission, re-granting, reporting, and close-out processes are followed.

Coordinate all in-person visits to US donors by other affiliates with the fundraising strategy of Oxfam America. Prepare briefing papers for in-person presentations by other Oxfam affiliates to US donors.

Work to ensure the maximum level of Oxfam America involvement in proposals to US donors other Oxfam affiliates.

Manage assigned thematic issue areas:
Operating with little supervision, oversee raising funds for assigned Oxfam initiatives.

Manage institutional donor relationships including research, coordinated strategy development, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

Provide leadership in developing new sources of funds. Identify and develop opportunities, including collaborative efforts with other Oxfam affiliates.

Work collaboratively with program staff and others to make programs more marketable to funders.

Be able to flexibly cover other thematic issue areas when needed.

Be able to manage several priorities simultaneously.

Donor relationships

Working independently and with program staff, engage donors in increasingly positive relationships throughout cultivation, solicitation and stewardship stages. Proactively seek opportunities to engage donors, building on these contacts.

Understand donor needs and interests. Develop donor key account plans and influencing strategies and work with program and executive staff to implement.

Close multiple six- and seven-figure grants for Oxfam programs each year.

Written materials and budgets

Work with program, compliance, and finance staff to ensure sufficient capacity for required donor reporting.

Prepare, write and edit compelling donor-related material (grant proposals, letters, reports, and briefings) as needed to support fundraising strategies.

Craft documents that convert complex program information, sometimes with multiple partners, into structured, accurate and compelling text that reflects deep understanding of programmatic impact and donor interests and requirements.

Be able to construct sophisticated budgets that reflect the cross-departmental and infrastructure needs of the program.

Coordinate development and submission of complex proposals and budgets.

Risk management

Thoroughly understand the risks encountered in institutional fundraising and work with finance and program staff to ensure that steps are taken to mitigate risks.

Knowledge of field

Remain current on trends in foundation and government giving and on the changing interests of Oxfam America institutional donors.

Identify emerging trends in the field and help to incorporate these into strategic planning for fundraising for Oxfam.

Act as mentor for Development Officers when needed on donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.

Data management

Use donor information systems to maintain current, relevant information on donors. Use this information as a tool for planning.

EXPECTATIONS FOR THE POSITION:

Work effectively and collaboratively in support of building a team-based culture of work; perform all duties appropriately for a multi-cultural environment, treating all persons with dignity and respect; be familiar with and committed to Oxfam America mission and goals. Ability to undertake approximately 20 days of job related national and international travel each year.

EXPERIENCE AND CORE COMPETENCIES:
Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a field related to writing and/or political science or international relations.

Minimum 7 years related experience with 3-5 years of demonstrated success in institutional fundraising including complex multi-million dollar, multi-year proposals.

Superior writing skills, oral communication skills and interpersonal skills. Ability to cultivate positive relationships with donors, staff, board members and volunteers.

Excellent listening and motivational skills. Comfort with working with a variety of personal styles. Ability to keep situations from escalating into larger conflicts and to resolve any conflicts if they do arise.

Experience in preparation and analysis of complex proposal budgets. Ability to translate organizational programmatic and infrastructure needs into budgets.

Demonstrated skills in strategic analysis and project planning.

Strong time management, organizational, planning and administrative skills, including comfort with various information systems, and fluency with word processing and spreadsheet applications on MS Office and databases.

DESIRED:
Experience in an issue-oriented non-profit organization or in an international development organization highly desirable.

Master’s Degree preferred.
