The College Board, a national educational organization, is conducting a search for a Senior Director, BT Labs in our Business Technology Department, who will be resident in our Reston, VA Office.
The BT Labs department within Business Technology (BT) has two primary focus areas: Concept Validation and Prototyping and Emerging Technology Research & Analysis (R&A).
Concept Validation and Prototyping supports all CB programs and services during the early stages of product development. This is accomplished as the “technology arm” of the College Board’s Innovation & Concept Development (I&CD), working in an integrated and embedded fashion with that team.
Emerging Technology Research and Analysis involves evaluating emerging technology solutions in the Education Technology landscape and beyond, usually as part of early engagement in project/product development to explore and recommend potential solution options leveraging these emerging technologies.
As a part of College Board’s continual investment in new products and services and emerging technologies, the Senior Director of BT Labs is a critical leadership role within the Business Technology organization and the College Board overall. This person must possess an exciting, passionate enthusiasm for new technologies, prototyping, and working in a consultative manner with respect to emerging technologies and product concepts. This person will work in a fast paced, innovative environment that encourages and rewards creative thinking, and works to bring an entrepreneurial perspective into a corporate technology organization.
Manage staff of Principal Engineers both internal College Board employees and non employees
Manage the hiring and staffing of resources for projects
Manage the daily operations, including schedules, budgets, and overall team organization
Collaborates effectively with necessary stakeholders to champion and manage the Emerging Technology R&A Roadmap on behalf of BT and the College Board
Works closely with Enterprise Architecture to keep our Emerging Technology R&D Roadmap current and relevant
Must possess extensive expertise is new and emerging technologies and technology trends such as Open Source, Cloud Computing, Mobile, Semantic Web, Web 3.0, SOA, etc..
Must possess extensive expertise in Technical Solution Architecture
Must possess extensive expertise in managing Lead/Sr-Level engineering personnel and vendors
Manages multiple cross-functional projects of very high complexity.
Typically manages multiple functions for an enterprise or multiple projects.
Responsible for providing strategic technology direction for the organization.
Must be a seasoned speaker/presenter with heavy experience presenting to Senior Executive, Technical and Non-Technical audiences alike.
Responsible for overall coordination, status reporting and stability of project oriented work efforts.
Establishes and implements processes and methodologies to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, adhere to high quality standards and meet customer expectations.
Responsible for assembling project plans and resourcing/vendor assignments, directing and monitoring work efforts on a daily basis, identifying resource needs, performing quality review; and escalating functional, quality, timeline issues appropriately.
Responsible for tracking key project milestones and adjusting project plans and/or resources to meet the needs of customers.
Coordinates communication with all areas of the enterprise that impacts the scope, budget, risk and resources of the work effort being managed.
A minimum of seven plus year’s experience with a proven track record in managing/leading a technical team in a dynamic setting. A bachelors degree (MS or MBA preferred), and experience to include a minimum of seven years of experience applying knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to a broad range of life-cycle activities in order to meet the requirements for Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), and Methodologies. Requires advanced technical and business knowledge in multiple disciplines/technologies/processes. Must have extensive experience managing technology projects in an Agile (SCRUM, XP, Etc) manner. Must have experience presenting to Senior/Exec-level Management.
