About the Opportunity
To achieve the college’s priorities, fundraising success is crucial. Today, fundraising at Babson is at an all time high. Having secured over $20M in 2011 and 2012, Babson is poised to raise $23.5M in 2013. With a great story to tell, a global reach, and an internationally acclaimed president, Babson is positioned to achieve greater heights as it approaches its Centennial campaign, currently in the early planning stage.
Reporting to Diana Prescott Zais, Vice President, Development, the new Senior Director will be part of a 5-member development leadership team who will oversee two corporate and foundation professionals. This position was created to establish new corporate and foundation relationships that will lead to 6 figures and above gifts. The focus of this role is primarily external. By leveraging Babson’s reputation for economic and social value creation through entrepreneurship, the Senior Director will secure visits with like-minded institutional leaders that will lead to philanthropic partnerships. The Senior Director will work closely with the President who is an outstanding fundraiser, volunteer leaders, faculty and staff regarding strategies to involve them in achieving philanthropic goals and will collaborate with marketing, research, stewardship and operations colleagues to develop compelling proposals that achieve results. During the first three months, the Senior Director will review and assess all aspects of the corporate and foundation relations program and present recommendations on strategy, goals and budgets as well as plans for recommended improvements.
The new Senior Director will be an innovative self-starter who applies major gifts thinking to institutional fundraising with the ability to discover new prospects and actively cultivate, solicit and close 6+ figure gifts. In 2012, Babson raised $1.6M in corporate and foundation support and intends to aggressively increase this support to $4M in 2013. Increasing corporate relationships and support are fundraising priorities, consistent with the College’s mission to educate for future business entrepreneurs. The new Senior Director will:
Quickly broaden the scope of Babson’s giving opportunities and prospects
Build powerful relationships with organizations of similar missions
Secure substantive funding from key corporate partners
The Senior Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations will oversee the Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations and the Assistant Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations.
The best candidates will possess exceptional business development skills, experience initiating new, high-level external relationships, and the skills to close large institutional gifts. The candidates we seek will be talented fundraisers who can apply major giving expertise to securing corporate and foundation support.
Candidates should possess at least 10-years’ successful work experience as a fundraiser, knowledge of corporate and foundation giving, and willingness to travel as needed. Strong leadership and staff management experience, excellent business writing skills and familiarity with proposal writing techniques are needed.
