As the Senior Director, Creative Services (Packaging) you will lead and mentor a group of art directors, designers, writers and project managers to support all of the company’s business units in developing and flawlessly executing packaging, merchandising and collateral systems that support the marketing strategies and positioning of the company’s products. You will help set the visual design language and standards for LeapFrog to assure a strong, integrated brand presence across all packaging, media, digital presence and retail environments. You will also be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of the Creative Services team. Additionally, you will work with the Marketing Communications Team and 3 rd party agencies to develop and produce TV campaigns for the LeapFrog brand and its products.
The Senior Director, Creative Services (Packaging) oversees development and project management activities to ensure the creation and execution of insight-driven packaging that strengthens the bond between consumer and brand. The Senior Director, Creative Services will be responsible for the development of creative briefs, overseeing visual audits, and creating brand standards and package style guides.
The successful candidate will also ensure timely pre-production meetings, design approvals, and all routing of art work. The incumbent is well-versed in all developmental steps and production processes including aesthetic/color approvals, die line verification, delivery of high resolution fields, color correction and print checks.
This is a senior-level position that works collaboratively and in a leadership role with the marketing, international marketing, direct marketing, merchandising and outbound licensing teams. The Senior Director, Creative Services (Packaging) will report directly to the Chief Marketing Officer.
Duties & Responsibilities
Develops visual design strategies for LeapFrog's portfolio of products, in support of marketing strategies and positioning
Builds, manages and mentors a team of graphic designers, copywriters, project management and administrative staff
Provides project and design leadership for outside design firms, photographers and illustrators, including negotiating contracts and driving schedules
Provides design leadership for implementing packaging, merchandising and collateral
Provides thought leadership and production oversight with Marketing Communications Team for TV/Radio creative and production
Works with digital team to ensure consistency in branding and message for online assets, digital advertising, and website promotional creative
Responsible for managing and maintaining the creative assets library
Develops and implements brand standards graphic guidelines for internal and external use
Responsible for managing a package comp production studio
Drives development and delivery of training programs in packaging and creative development for both marketing and graphic design teams
Oversees creative services administration to ensure accurate budgeting, accounting and reporting
Collaborates with and oversees the performance of an outsourced provider, fulfilling project management, art production, pre-press, print quality management, administrative and business reporting functions
Education & Experience
B.A., Graphic Design
10+ years of solid brand and communication design experience, with substantial exposure to a wide variety of disciplines, including brand strategy, identity development, print and digital marketing materials, packaging, merchandising and collateral materials
5 – 7 years as Creative Director leading branding and packaging for consumer packaged goods companies. Toys and educational brands experience a plus.
Team builder and inspiring leader with consummate collaboration and client management skills
Excellent verbal and written communications skills, and excellent presentation skills
Highly knowledgeable in graphic arts production processes and abreast of innovative design trends and technologies
High design standards that deliver desired results, strong foundation in typography, and passion for cutting-edge creative solutions
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines with frequent interruptions and changing priorities
Power user in Adobe CS4/CS5 and MS Office
