Currently, we have an opening for a highly talented Senior Director of Engineering. You will be challenged with skillfully leading a team of talented engineers and data scientists tasked with building next generation natural language processing, classification, statistical analysis and data mining systems. These mission critical systems measure relevance, optimize ad performance and model user intent with the goal of improving our products to drive additional user growth and value.
This highly visible role will be responsible for managing the architecture, integration and deployment of high-performance software development. This vital position will also be responsible for optimizing the performance of two high-growth teams within our organization.
Software Product Development
Lead, architect and manage strategy, roadmap and development of high traffic web service products and vital enterprise applications within the organization.
Leverage and optimize existing technologies (for core competencies) and best-of-breed external products and services (for efficiency).
Deliver innovative solutions based on addressing complex problems within the business that are both future-facing and retrospective.
Lead, coach and passionately teach best practice skills and habits in furtherance of a coherent and transparent product-oriented roadmap whereby software developers and the business clearly understand the “why” and the “what” that must be built.
Staff Development & Management
Manage the career development of direct reports. This includes mentoring junior and senior software engineers that are both management-track or programming-track focused. It also includes championing standard Agile and pragmatic practices across all of the development teams.
Manage the assignment of software engineers to internal client teams as needed, balancing FTEs with contractors and outsourced project developers, and with an eye on long-term continuity for any given team.
Attitude of a winner!
5+ years of relevant work experience, specifically a proven history of successfully providing superior engineering management.
Background in natural language processing and/or computational linguistics, ideally with informational retrieval and machine learning experience.
Experience and passion for open source software (Hadoop, Mahout, Riak, Redis, etc)
Great project management skills.
Excellent technical and programming skills
Must be familiar with the concepts of Agile software development methodologies, particularly the Scrum and Kanban forms of Agile.
B.S./M.S. in Computer Science
