SolarCity has an incredible amount of real-world data on solar energy production and field service coming in to our databases every day. The Senior Energy Analyst’s primary role is to make sense of this data so that the company can make informed decisions. They will bring new analysis techniques to our existing reporting capability, enabling SolarCity to extract more meaningful knowledge from our extensive data. An ideal candidate has a scientific and mathematical mind and is naturally inclined to look at data sets in innovative ways.
Responsibilities
Develop, enhance and critique data processing techniques used by SolarCity to evaluate performance and find malfunctions
Evaluate energy generation performance of photovoltaic systems and components
Mine raw data to identify trends in equipment reliability, installation quality, degradation, etc.
Create reports and presentations for upper management, finance partners and others
Write scripts, macros and programs to automate routine analyses and actions
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Math, ComSci or related, or demonstrable mathematical prowess
3+ years professional experience working with and analyzing large data sets
3+ years professional experience using one or more common programming/scripting languages (e.g. C/C++/C#, Java/JavaScript, Python, Ruby, Perl, MATLAB, SAS, etc.)
Can write SQL queries and comprehend complex relational database schemas
Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel and/or professional statistical analysis software
Ability to clearly communicate and present complicated information to less-technical audiences
Grasps basic concepts of electricity (AC/DC, current, voltage, resistance, power vs. energy etc)
Preferred: Experience with MATLAB, SAS, Minitab, SPSS, or other statistical analysis software
Preferred: Advanced degree in related discipline (e.g. Math, Stats, Physics, ComSci etc.)
Preferred: Knowledge of energy generation systems and/or solar energy modeling
