Overview: Management Science Associates, Inc. (MSA) is a diversified information management company that for nearly half a century has given market leaders the competitive edge in data management, analytics and technology as well as provided infrastructure hosting software and hardware services to regional companies in our enterprise class data centers. We are currently seeking a Senior Hardware Field Engineer/Technician specializing in Digital (DEC), Compaq, HP VAX and Alpha hardware to join the existing hardware service team in managing and improving the hardware infrastructure for our growing list of Data Center customers. Excellent customer service skills are required for this position. The selected candidate must have a clean driving record and the ability to travel to customer sites in the western half of Pennsylvania.
Installation and on-site repair of new and used computer systems, peripherals, and related devices
In-house staging of new equipment, new software programs; systems integration
Repair of computer systems and peripherals
Perform preventive maintenance on various computer systems and peripherals
Provide customer-site and MSA-site support of operating systems and applications hardware
Completes training assignments on new operating systems, software and related information technologies
Trains lower-level field engineers
High-School level reading and math plus basic computer operations training (classroom or on the job)
AA degree in electronics or information technology may substitute for up to two years of experience
Advanced understanding of computers and operating systems
Minimum of eight years' experience in electronics/computer field working with customers
At least 5 years of Digital VAX 7000 hands-on hardware repair and maintenance experience or other related XMI Bus-based machines.
At least 5 years of Digital/Compaq/HP hands-on hardware repair and maintenance experience.
Excellent hardware break/fix and maintenance skills on Digital/DEC/Compaq/HP servers, controller and clusters.
VAX 7000 hands-on hardware break/fix experience a must.
Above-average ability to learn computer assembly and maintenance
Advanced understanding of operating systems and networking protocols
Experience in hardware design and troubleshooting
Experience with MS Office applications and Visio a plus
Ability to handle confidential information
Must have strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
Must be a team player with excellent oral and written communications skills
Seasoned customer relations ability
Possess independent, communicative, accountable, practical problem solving skills and ability to document and track all work performed for knowledge base growth and audits.
Must have a current driver's license, clean driving record, and own transportation
Position requires background check and drug testing
