Leading Auto Servicing and Processing Company in the nation is seeking a talented, creative, and dynamic Senior Human Resources Generalist to join our HR Team in Chicago, IL. The Company has operations at various locations in throughout U.S. and Canada. We have a great benefits package (Medical, Vision, Dental & 401K) and great working environment. The Sr. Human Resources Generalist will administer grievance procedures. Provide labor relations support during contract negotiations; track and monitor and communicate changes as applied. Acts as a liaison between department managers and union representatives; provides advice and counsel to managers and supervisors regarding personnel practices, policy, and employment laws; administers unemployment insurance processes. Directs the development of staffing strategies; develops and builds hiring processes for a variety of levels from temporary staffing to executive placement. Manage sourcing and recruiting initiatives efforts and processes to leverage networking and employee referrals; manages college relations and oversees various sourcing reviews liability reports and monitors program costs; and recommends policy changes to the Senior Human Resources Management.

Essential Functions
  • Administers, interprets, and manage various labor agreements
  • Serve as primary contact on the company's behalf with Union leadership. The Senior HR Generalists is responsible for generating a maintaining an effective relationship with union leadership while driving a comprehensive union relations strategy to drive the business ahead.
  • Advises management and union officials in development, application, and interpretation of labor relations policies and practices, according to Company policies and procedures. Manage grievance program; investigating and making sound recommendations with union.
  • Prepares statistical reports, using records of actions taken concerning grievances, arbitration and mediation cases, and related labor relations activities, to identify problem areas.
  • Monitors implementation of policies concerning wages, hours, and working conditions, to ensure compliance with terms of labor contract.
  • Partners with employees and management to communicate various Human Resources policies, procedures, laws, standards and government regulations.
  • Responds to employee relation issues such as employee complaints, harassment allegations, and civil rights complaints. Help resolve employee concerns; recommending lowest level resolution. Responds to all EEOC and/or NLRB charges as required.
  • Response and execute unemployment claims inquiries.
  • Represents management in investigating, answering, and settling grievances, by arranging and scheduling grievance hearings between union personnel, supervisor and the Management team.
  • Promote and Foster conductive grievance procedure and policy with each respective union, meeting regularly with union leaders to maintain a consistent & effective relationship.
  • Handle labor relations issues at all levels, by counseling employees, mediating and resolving disputes between employees and supervisors, coordinating investigations of complaints and grievances.
  • Provide oversight and advice to the HR team and management regarding employment-related risk.
  • Provide guidance to management and employees regarding employment and labor matters, assuring legal compliance and respond to charges of discrimination.
  • Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in the efficiencies of the operation.
  • Participates in developing department goals, objectives and systems with facility managers, accounting managers, supervisors and recommends changes when necessary.
  • Recommends and implements personnel policies and procedure; prepares and maintains handbooks on policies and procedures; recommends and sits in on bargaining committee for union negotiations; addresses and responds to union grievances; performs benefit administration to include claims resolution, change reporting, approving invoices for premium payments and information activities.
  • Monitor and Communicate with associates and/or union informed of all changes in personnel policies, counsels with associates on personnel policies and on personal problems.
  • Directs employment activities, assuring that properly qualified associates are recruited and hired for exempt and non-exempt positions within the assigned facilities.
  • Interviews job applicants and checks personal qualifications; refers applicants to supervisory personnel for interview; investigates references and handles details of associate induction.
  • Protects interest of associates and company in accordance with company policies and governmental laws and regulations. Identifies legal requirements and governmental regulations and monitors exposure of the company.
  • Maintains good public relations with various civic organizations, local plants, vendors and business people in the community regarding Human Resource functions.
  • Keeps Senior Human Resources Management informed of significant problems that could jeopardize the achievement of the company.
  • Duties as noted on the “Assignment of Responsibility” task list.

  • Work with Senior Human Resources Management on all legal claims ie; lawsuits, civil, EEO, ADA, etc.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintains general control methods, records and files as required for effective Human Resource function.
  • Tour, monitor safety coordinators/personnel and review safety meeting and inspections to assure and ascertain safety of operations, compliance with laws, rules and regulations and to maintain a visible link to an open, interpersonal work environment.
  • Maintains logs, updating weekly.
  • Respond to inquiries from customers and staff
  • Provides excellent customer service and contributes to a team environment.
  • Exercises initiative to learn new skills.
  • Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
  • Provides support and assistance with the preparation of various reports.

Relationships and Contacts:
  • Daily contact with company personnel at all levels (hourly, supervisory, and corporate), regarding Human Resource matters.
  • Periodic contact with governmental agencies, attorneys, insurance inspectors, recruiting agencies, civic organization, and other community leaders.
Working Conditions:
  • Primarily a sedentary position with normal walking within/around office.
  • Some travel required. Transportation may be by train, vehicle, or airplane.
  • Will be exposed to all weather elements while traveling and may occasionally be exposed to elements while touring facilities and riding in shuttle vans.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, or related field of study and Six (6) years' experience in human resources management, three (3) years of which must have been in a responsible labor relations position. Position requires an advanced level of understanding in labor relations, employee relations and demonstrated success in representing management in collective bargaining and grievance management, preferably with various manufacturing union environments.
  • Must possess considerable knowledge of management-labor relations; the principles, practices, and procedures of Human Resources Management.
  • Ability to manage and administer a broad range of tasks including resolving complaints, counseling managers and employees on the interpretation of policies, procedures and union agreements.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices human resources management and supervision in a union environment.
  • Ability to prepare written reports and correspondences, and presentations to senior leadership as required.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Must be able to research information and analyze data to arrive at valid conclusions, recommendations, and plans of action.
  • Must be able to prepare comprehensive reports and represent ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Must have the ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships. Exhibit good verbal and written communication skill.
  • Intermediate level skills with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Comfortable with performing complex projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to get along with diverse personalities on all levels of the organization. Be tactful, mature and flexible.
