Perform accounting and support functions for the Sonesta ES Suites hotels. This position will require the supervision of corporate general ledger accountants and report directly to the Assistant Controller, Sonesta Hotel Accounting. This role requires close coordination with corporate hotel accounting personnel, hotel general managers, operations managers, accounts payable and the systems group.
Assist general ledger accountants in month end close process for the ES Suites Hotels.
Supervise and review general ledger accountants monthly journal entries, bank reconciliations, accrual calculations and other general ledger workpapers.
Lead role in preparing for year-end audits, contact for internal and external auditors.
Maintain and reconcile intercompany and due to/from accounts.
Be a point person for hotel personnel and general ledger accountants for accounting related questions and ultimate resolutions.
Supervise the internal control testing process including process narratives, walkthroughs and testing of controls.
Review monthly financial statements and analyze and document variances from budget and prior year to current year actual.
Perform special projects as needed.
Bachelors Degree in Accounting.
CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
Minimum 3 years general or public accounting experience required. Hotel related accounting experience a plus.
Demonstrate knowledge of accounting practices and procedures with ability to research and recommend appropriate treatments.
Ability to proactively communicate and work effectively with internal customers, other accounting staff members and external vendors.
Ability to work in a fast paced environment, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential.
Strong attention to detail, problem solving, solid analytical skills, and follow-through skills are essential.
Ability to review work for quality and completeness will be a key to success.
Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and experience with Yardi preferred.
