We are currently seeking a Senior Immunologist for the Silver Spring, Maryland area.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Senior Malaria Serology Laboratory Manager oversees all operational aspects of the MSL. They ensure smooth daily workflow by assigning tasks to and overseeing completion of sample analysis by technicians.

  • The Senior Malaria Serology Laboratory Manager also maintains their bench skills by assisting in assay development.

  • Sample and supply inventories are maintained and stocked by this individual to include management of the Malaria Vaccine Branch’s 21 CFR, Part 11 compliant electronic freezer inventory database.

  • This individual must have intimate knowledge of all assays in the malaria serology laboratory repertoire.

  • Join a highly professional team supporting several scientists at WRAIR and external collaborators conducting vaccine Development assays.

  • Participate in method development and optimization activities, writing SOPs, and establishing, reviewing, and updating QA/QC standards.

  • Evaluate, procure, and implement new state-of-the-art technologies that support the Vaccine development effort based on mission requirements

  • Improve and develop new ELISA, Immuno-fluorescent Antibody (IFA), and Avidity assays.

  • Provide consultation and technical input and feedback to Scientists on interpreting laboratory data

  • Author and co-author scientific papers that describe various assay development, principles, and implemented technologies

  • Participate, as appropriate, in weekly scientific meeting/discussions with the lab's PI and Branch's military leadership.

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD with a minimum of 5 years experience in the research and development of vaccines and the analytical assay associated with them.

  • Candidate should have a publication record commensurate with their experience.

  • Must have experience in managing personnel and projects.

  • Must be able to work independently following a brief period of specific technical training.

  • Qualified candidates will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.
