Under the direction of Laboratory Supervisor designs, plans, and directs the construction of instruments as specified for the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering ( MAE ); assists with instructional duties in laboratory setting related to MAE courses; assists in teaching students proper operation of machine tools and related equipment; instructs and assists students in designing and building projects; trains technical staff and student workers as needed; prepares specimens for lab experiments; enforces laboratory safety procedures in compliance with OSHA and OSU regulations; assists Laboratory Supervisor with operations of the MAE machine shops; consults with faculty, staff, and students on the design, construction, modification, or repair of instruments for research and instruction; fabricates components and assemblies from sketches and verbal instructions using manual and CNC machine tools, welders, and associated equipment; modifies existing equipment to meet evolving research and instructional needs; utilizes CAD and CAM software to program CNC lathes and milling machines; estimates cost of materials, time, and labor required for projects; performs tool and material checkout procedures; performs maintenance and upgrading of equipment, instruments, and machines; orders components for machine shop instructional and research needs; fulfills work orders for other OSU departments as time permits;
Graduate of a 2-year technical college and extensive experience as precision research instrument maker; supervisory experience and welding experience.
