AEGON Asset Management

(USAAM), the organization which oversees asset management for many of AEGON USAs operating companies as well as third party clients. Asset classes include public bonds, private placements, commercial mortgage loans, derivatives and alternative investments. Significant funds are invested in nearly every fixed income and real estate sector. The AEGON Asset Management organization has operations in Europe, the United States and Asia. Primary offices in the United States are located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Baltimore, Maryland.

This position will be located in Cedar Rapids, IA.


Securities Derivatives Valuation Group

is responsible for the accurate and timely valuation of securities, derivatives and some mortgage loans for USAAM. Some of the assets valued are managed by units of AEGON Asset Management in other countries. This group is looking for a Senior Investment Analyst to contribute in the Middle Office Department. The successful candidate will assist our team in the valuation of a wide array of investment vehicles under the company management.This position will primarily focus on derivatives, but may assist in other asset classes. This position will be filled at the Senior or Lead Investment Analyst level depending the experience, skills and needs of the organization.

Job Summary:
Drive the pricing process for assigned asset classes, including:

understand complexities of deals to ensure accurate and timely valuations

propose valuation methods where appropriate

collaborate with front office and other stakeholders as new instruments are considered for trading

construct and maintain pricing configurations in systems

research, analyze and resolve price variances and issues

obtain market data and prices via automated feeds, brokers, models and other approved valuation sources and methods

maintain the relationship with pricing vendors to ensure timely receipt of accurate prices.

Assist in the development and implementation of, and ensure adherence to, valuation policies and appropriate pricing procedures

Assist with the research, design, building and testing of valuation model output to determine reasonableness

Apply advanced analytical and financial product knowledge and judgment to complex instruments and activities

Provide project management support for large, complex projects - defining deliverables, setting schedules, and producing results with strong communication and negotiation skills.

Enhance data quality processes, manage pricing challenges and research/resolve issues.

Support compliance with internal risk policies and controls by identifying risks, implementing effective controls and maintaining evidence of controls in an effective manner

Complete customer requests with excellent service levels

Work effectively with other departments or divisions to ensure business issues are resolved for the success of the companyInitiate and lead implementation of improvements to efficiency, accuracy, controls, and customer service levels in relation to assigned work, projects or other process enhancements

Bachelors Degree, preferably in finance, business, mathematics, actuarial science, or related field

Advanced degree and/or appropriate professional certifications (i.e. CFA) is preferred

Three to five years business experience, including at least three years of experience in the institutional securities industry (preferably within the functional areas of pricing, risk management, trading, or modeling of complex financial instruments)

Demonstrated leadership abilities in a formal or informal settting

Significant knowledge of financial products , investment processes, and databases/trading systems (derivatives experience strongly preferred)

Strong analytical, problem recognition and resolution, organizational, and communication skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy

Self-motivated, proactive, and works well under pressure

Strong customer service skills, with a focus on continuous improvement

Ability to independently prioritize and work on multiple projects and assignments simultaneously

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a variety of audiences including investment professionals and upper management

Advanced skills in Excel

Knowledge of or experience with PAM, Murex, Aladdin (or similar systems) strongly preferred

Working knowledge of desktop tools such as MS Access, Project, Word, Excel, etc.
