BRENCO, producer of tapered roller bearings for the freight rail industry has an immediate need for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer. Brenco is part of larger company – Amsted Rail comprised of ASF-Keystone, Brenco and Griffin Wheel, all of which combine castings, bearings and wheels from all three of the Amsted rail divisions, providing customers with 90% of their freight car undercarriage requirements.

This is a technical professional position who develops or improves business processes to enhance worker safety, improve quality, increase efficiency and cut costs in the manufacturing sector. The manufacturing engineer is responsible for providing the overall process design and suggesting measures for improvement of manufacturing, thereby increasing productivity and improving manufacturing costs.

Responsibilities
·
Acquires and provides expert knowledge of hot forge processes, tooling and equipment in support of a 24x7 operation
  • Works effectively with personnel in plant supervision, shop set up and operation, and quality in order to coordinate the first time set up and trouble shooting of production operations
  • Provides engineering support to maintenance in the troubleshooting, rebuilding and repair of forging equipment
  • Initiates safety improvements
  • Initiates and executes continuous improvement projects, including brainstorming, information gathering and analysis, proposal development based on cross-functional input, and cost justification of any required investment
  • Creates and maintains process routings, process drawings, control plans, and PFMEAs
  • Designs and develops manufacturing and inspection tooling, fixtures, and gauges needed to support prototype and production processes
  • Designs custom equipment in support of manufacturing processes according to company design standards
  • Interacts with vendors to determine appropriate specifications and to arrange for the purchase of equipment, materials, or services
  • Ensure that all work activities are performed in accordance with established safety and environmental standards
  • Interfaces with all departments to keep up to date on project status and ensure timely completing of project
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Position requirements
·
BS in mechanical engineering or equivalent
· 7+ years experience in manufacturing engineering (masters degree in lieu of experience)
  • Demonstrated understanding of hydraulic circuits
  • CAD experience including understanding of GD&T principles (ANSI Y14.5)
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability
Experience in managing multiple projects
  • Sound multi-functional teaming skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Willingness to travel occasionally, including occasional international travel
Additional Qualifications
·
Demonstrable knowledge of hot forging operations. ( desirable but not required)
· Experience in custom machine design
· Knowledge of steel metallurgy
· Basic understanding of electrical circuits and ladder logic
· Formal training in lean manufacturing and /or quality
· Experience with Microsoft Office software to include Word, Excel, and MS Project
· Experience with Autodesk Inventor (or equivalent)
