The (Senior) Writer/Editor writes and edits (fact-checking, grammar-checking and proofreading) articles, marketing collateral, video scripts, advertisements, web pages and e-communications that promote the university for a wide variety of audiences. In every assignment, the Writer/Editor will contribute creative, compelling, innovative writing ensuring that all materials published by the marketing department are of the highest editorial standards, meet university identity guidelines and are aligned with university objectives and needs. Proofreads division communications to ensure proper facts and grammar are utilized.
Consistently deliver outstanding copy.
Effectively translate university branding and marketing strategies into exceptional creative concepts and executions.
Work with internal departments to write copy for various university publications and projects.
Edit and proof all copy within internal and external university publications.
Inform clients of established editorial style and proofreading issues pertaining to their publications.
Rewrite or modify copy to clarify meaning and conform to University style.
Assist with the formulation of article ideas with the marketing team.
Gather the appropriate information from primary sources via in-person and/or phone interviews.
Conduct research via Internet and other sources to develop writing content, as needed.
Ensure that publications meet the standards set forth in the University Style Manual.
Assist with editorial and writing workshops as required.
Communicate with design staff about editing and proofreads blue-lines, color blue-lines, and match prints.
B.A. or B.S. degree in journalism, communication, or English.
Minimum of 5 years of proven communications and/or project management experience in a professional writing and editing environment, particularly in feature writing and informational and promotional material.
The ability to distill complex concepts into clear, engaging copy.
The ability to manage multiple projects and evolving priorities, and to see opportunities to present content in different platforms.
The ability to work creatively, collaboratively and within established deadline and budgets.
Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills, and strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills?
Familiarity with higher education environment and knowledge of AP style are preferred.
