Aerojet in Redmond, Washington, is seeking a Senior Material and Process (M&P) Engineer to join our space rocket propulsion engineering team with the knowledge, drive, enthusiasm, leadership, and initiative to enhance Aerojet’s materials and process capability. The engineer will join a small yet diverse team of M&P engineers responsible for all M&P aspects of our liquid engine and electric propulsion product lines. This includes selection and development of metals and non-metals, joining and finishing processes, materials requirements management, production floor support, and failure investigations as required.
Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each):
30% - Support design process by providing material selection recommendations, reviewing design drawings, reviewing manufacturing planning, and supporting Engineering Review Boards; participating in design reviews and customer technical interchange meetings; evaluating suppliers and their materials to ensure they meet requirements.
35% - Support product development with a variety of material tasks, such as evaluating outgassing, stress corrosion, corrosion resistance, radiation compatibility, fuel compatibility, metallic and non-metallic joining techniques; identifying advanced materials; leading development of criteria and establishing standards for experimental, test and/or production purposes; performing laboratory and manufacturing experiments; and interpreting, analyzing, evaluating, and reporting on data and processes.
25% - Maintain interactions with customers on issues, such as materials obsolescence and critical items list; analyze and document technical conclusions of hardware failure; perform engineering analysis of nonconforming hardware, including coordination of analysis for disposition of Material Review Board documents.
10% - Perform other duties as assigned.
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Material Science or similar discipline, such as Material Engineering, and at least five years of directly related experience. An advanced engineering degree is preferred. You must understand joining and inspection techniques for stainless steels, nickel alloys, ceramics and refractory metals, as well as the properties of those materials. Strong analytical and communication skills (written and oral) are required, along with the ability to work in a collaborative team environment. Candidate must be experienced using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. This position requires the ability to read, interpret, prepare, and issue drawings and related specifications, as well as the ability to use test and other measurement equipment. Six Sigma knowledge and experience in the aerospace industry are desired.

Working Conditions: Employee may need to work near moving mechanical parts and in loud working conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes, chemicals or airborne particles.
