TerraCycle is the world leader in the collection and recycling of post-consumer “non-recyclable” waste. In 22 countries, we collect billions of units of waste, mostly plastic packaging that is otherwise destined for landfill or incineration. By collecting coherent waste streams (millions of chip bags, millions of pens, millions of toothbrushes, etc., each segregated), we are able to use third party facilities to recycle these waste streams into plastic pellets for use by third party manufacturers, which provide specifications. Our collection business is funded by brands (Kraft, Colgate, L’Oreal, PepsiCo, Mars, Kimberly Clark, GSK, etc.) which pay us to run post-consumer collection programs, thereby rendering their previously non-recyclable packaging or products recyclable. In the US alone we have over 50,000 voluntary collection locations, mostly in schools and offices.

For the right candidate, this is a dream position, as the role involves developing solutions for varying kinds of polymers. This is a position in TerraCycle’s science and materials team, which has already developed solutions for wide ranges of waste that TerraCycle collects, including chip bags, juice pouches, soiled diapers, and chewed gum. Not only does the successful candidate have to be creative with plastics and other types of waste: S/he must be able to be able to communicate clearly with others (non-scientists) in the company who regularly seek advice on waste solutions. The job also involves contracting for and overseeing tests at third party laboratories.

  • Compounding background a plus
  • Knowledge of Quality Control Systems a plus
  • Experience with technical proposal or report writing is required
  • A track-record that demonstrates success of working in the polymer science field
  • Solid scientific background and proven high levels of performance in related fields
  • Demonstrated ability to listen to customers' needs, develop solutions to meet their requirements, trust and respect
  • Must be capable of handling multiple projects/tasks at the same time, and must have hands-on experience and execute project independently without the need of supervision
  • A can-do attitude, ability to “move without the ball” and fit into the TerraCycle unique work environment.

Benefits & Compensation:
  • Salary commensurate with experience
  • Generous paid time off benefits
  • 401(k) with a company match
  • Company offers health benefits
